T2i vs T3i

I currently have a Canon Rebel Xti and I am seriously thinking about upgrading to either the T2i or the T3i. I've read some reviews but just am uncertain as to which would suit me better. The one thing that I question is the T3i movable screen and whether this is more of a hinderance than useful. In one review it appears like you can use the screen in various positions to see the subject of your picture before taking the shot. I'm use to only using my DSLR screen to view pics after the shot - so not sure about this moveable thing. Opinions?

Get the T3i. You will like the versatility of the screen. Resale will be easier also. It is no hinderance at all.

I use to own an XTi and last Nov. I decided to upgrade and went with the T3i. I wanted the movable screen so I went with it. With a movable screen You can mount the camera on a monopod and take pics from different angles and if you are in a crowd then you can use it to get better pics with the live view and a wireless remote control. However if you will be shooting fast moving subjects like baseball or soccer games or birds in flight, where you will take several shots in a row than you might want the 60D as the processing is much faster on the 60D . I found this out after it was too late to return my T3i so I will probably get the 60D in may or june of this year. I should have done more research on them and I didn't realize the 60D also has the articulating screen...And I passed the XTi on to my sister who loves it.

I just got a T3i for Christmas and love it. The screen flips all the way around so it can lay flat against the camera either facing you or facing the camera (for protection). For faster processing, you could just get a bigger memory card - cheaper than the upgrade to the 60D.

A faster or bigger memory card won't help... The 60D shoots 5.3fps and the T3i shoots 3.3fps . Also I think my XTi unloaded the buffer faster than my T3i but that might be me. The T3i does shoot @ 18mp as opposed to 10.1 mp for the XTi... The following is a link to a utube video comparing the two.

Don't get me wrong...I Love the T3i...I just need faster fps for the nieces & nephews ball games this summer...

Have you though about going to the 60D ? it would be a better step up from the Xti and the cost differences would be minimal.

The only time I would ever use that screen would be if I was having to shoot over someone's head, and so I'd have to hold the camera above to shoot over. Then having that screen that would be able to adjust downward so that I could look up and see what I was shooting (instead of guessing like I do now).

I started off with an XTi and love the camera. I still have it, as I would've sold it but they don't sell much on ebay now so I might as well keep it as a spare.
I bought a friend's old 40D and see that as a drastic improvement.
I would offer recommendation to you to see if you can get a 40D, 50D, 60D or even a 7D. I've used the 40D and love it. I used a friend's 7D and was jealous.
The used market could have something for you to upgrade to that would be a dramatic improvement over sticking with the Rebel line.

Minimal diffeences between t2i, T3i, 60d, 7d. What is so great on the 7d overthe previous? I just see one advantage on t3i over t2i, the articulate screen. The 60d has better fps frrom teh T3i, , but do we notice, need that? Also environmental seal. The 7d is almost the same as 60D. They all increase in weight as we move along froml lef to right and even though i hear lots of uuuh, aaah! Aout the 7D, on paper i don't see any major diffence. Same sensor, same ISO capabilities as the previous and all basic characteristics are the same. Are ou kidding me, Canon? I beg yourpardon, hope i am not offending anyone. Go to dprview.com and put all four on "compare cameras side by side" then you tell me.

CORRECTIONS (I was typing from iPad)

The 60d has better fps from the T3i, but do we notice, need that? Also environmental seal, which is not really a seal, use with caution under rain. The 7d is almost the same as 60D. They all increase in weight as we move along from left to right so I assume, it's just the body that changed. Sensor is the same. and even though I hear lots of uuuh, aaah! about the 7D, on paper I don't see any major difference from previous on the basic specs. I very seldom use live view so I went with the T2i. It is a great camera and I think the only reason for me to upgrade would be for faster fps as I do mostly bird/wildlife photography.
