Nikon lenses generally fit on Nikon cameras, but they won't autofocus with your D3100 if they don't have a focus motor. Get the exact details - complete name - of the lenses. Then Google them and make sure they're what you want. Also, check prices for the same lenses on ebay. When you search there, you can go to the bottom of the left column and see how much they have actually sold for.

You can do lens comparisons at these sites.

Insufficient ingormation. If you go to the Nikon website and look in the support section you will eventually find a pdf file of the user manual for your camera. There will be a lens comparability chart in it. You can also find information on this at kenrockwell.com. Basically you only wand a "G" series lens. The only info I can find on 128mm lens is that it is probably for television cameras. -- not likely to work with a D3100

If they are pre-AI lenses, I don't know if the will work or even fit on your camera. I have read a little about those type of lenses, but that's about it. I'm sorry I can't be any help.

It sounds like the aperture not the focal length. Could it be 1:2.8?

Actually, you could go wrong to the tune of $150. If they are Nikon lenses, they probably will fit. The question is ... why would you want to take a giant technological step backward ? If you don't mind manual focus, there are a lot of older excellent lenses out there - just understand what you're buying.

FIRST!!! Don't put any unknown lens on your camera. It may never come off!

Next, go to the following Nikon Compatibility site:

Have fun!

If they are Nikon lenses, they will probably fit. However, if they are pre-AI, they may damage your camera unless they have been modified. If they are AI or AI-S lenses they will work fine but they will not auto focus, nor will the meter on your D3100 meter correctly (if at all). If they are AF lenses they will fit and meter but will not autofocus because the D3100 does not have a focus motor.

AI & AI-S lenses have two aperture scales, one above and one below the metering prong; non AI lenses have only one aperture scale above the metering prong as shown in the photo below. The lens on the left is AI/AIS, the lens on the right is pre-AI.

AI/AI-S on left, pre-AI on right
AI/AI-S on left, pre-AI on right...

Or it could be a typo and they meant 28mm. I don't think I've ever heard of a 128 mm lens.
