Upon download & enlargement, none of these three images appear sharp. Your shutter duration & aperture look proper. Is the 85-mm a Nikkor macro lens?

yes it is a NIkkor DX lens, I was trying a set of extension tubes i got for my birthday in Feb. After I posted I thought better check my camera settings an found I forgot to take the af switch to manual could be why?

If these are hand-held, then A-F is not a problem. I use A-F for all of my hand-held macro-photography. If your camera was tripod-mounted, then you probably should have switched-off lens VR.

I suggest that you spend much time with just your macro lens, at or very near Minimum Focusing Distance, to get as much experience as possible, before "graduating" to extension tubes.

thank you, I think your right. I had the camera set on Manual mode, and hand-held.
