Trying to understand color management

If I adjust my photo using Elements 12 and then want to print on my home Epson 725 artisan, do I let the printer manage color or do I let Elements manage color?....If I let the printer manage color, will it possibly change any adjustments I made in Elements?...does anyone know of a good tutorial to explain this and provide a workflow so I would know what options to choose?

I let the printer manage colors. The printer will not change the adjustments you made with Elements.
Color management is more applicable to color spaces than to printing. If your monitor is properly calibrated your printer will reproduce accurate colors.
I am sure that if you select sRGB color space in camera or computer your files will print properly and accurately if your monitor has been calibrated.

If you have calibrated your screen and also downloaded ICC profiles for the paper then you are probably better off letting photoshop manage. I had about a 20% variation between screen and print until I did this. I have used the Scott Kelby books they are a great help.

An added thought: Check your settings to make sure that either Elements or your printers manages the colours, not both!

If you let the printer manage color, it will not change any adjustments, but it will use it's own driver to manage color, that is the reason to always turn Color Management to >Off<, when choosing Photoshop to manage color!!That will prevent the printers driver to interfere with Photoshop's "Color Management".

After extensive experimentation with color profiles and my Epson StylusPhoto2200, I've concluded that 'Printer manages colors' gives me the best results consistently, and uses a bit less ink also. Go figure! - I guess the printer knows what it's doing better than I or Photoshop...

On my Artisan 835, I get much better output if I let the printer manage colors. On my r3000 I get much better output if I let Photoshop manage colors and use paper profiles. Both are Epson printers.

It seems to me that even when I turn off printer color management in the Artisan, and set everything up correctly with profiles and color management properly selected in both printer and photo software, it is still doing something behind the scenes, to make prints look muddy and the problem is worse when printing from Adobe products than from Apple products. I have googled and read everything I could find on this subjects and never uncovered a solution, though I did find others suffering from the same problem.

If you search Google you will find many free tutorials on the subject. Lydia.com and Scott Kelby offer many tutoials for a few. I have always read that it is best to let the computer program manage the color. However it appears that some hogs have had good success with the printer managing color. Just don't do both. Tim Grey offers many tips in his daily newsletters about this topic.
