All of this are things I never thought of, but you all are correct. I would like to know how I can secure my image on a website. (BTW My teacher once went on a logo site online, and downloaded an image from a place where you were not suppose to be able to do so...)

In my opinion, right-clicking an image should take you to either an order blank or a screen that says it's copyrighted. I recently downloaded an image from a fellow's wedding site. Nothing stopped me. However, when I tried to open the image, there was nothing there! Don't know how he did that, but it was pretty secure. If you can download an image for free, I wouldn't use that website! Of course there are always work-arounds, but at least the website should make it difficult.

I once had a fellow send me an e-mail thanking me for one of my images, which he copied. He simply pulled it up on his monitor and painted it! There's nothing to keep your image from being stolen other than posting really low resolutions that show up looking really pixelated and terrible. But then, of course, that doesn't sell your image!

With all due respect - why are you on this forum if not to share and learn from others? Just wondering......

Big difference in giving help over doing the work for someone.
The OP states he doesn't want to do the research. Clearly sounds like more than just asking for help.

Hello;
I checked your website, BEAUTIFUL images.
FYI: I tried downloading some images for free from a few of the Websites. Some I could download very easy if I were stealing them.
I have some images on my Facebook site, would you know it that is safe??
A click on an image done in the Smugmug site, produced the "blank page" that you mentioned. Did you use Smugmug?
Also I note that there are "tags" with you images that I am assuming are threads that will lead that person to your images should they use those words when searching for images? IF that is so, how did you do that? (Come up with all of the tags.)
Thanks again for your help..

You "found me out!" I was just making everyone else do my research.. Now are you happy?
Let's PLEASE allow anyone that has DONE MY RESEARCH, to answer or give me help, and to all who are not interested, PLEASE refrain from offering any of your wisdom..
Thanks to all...

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can have a Website created for my photo and art images that is both affordable and functional?
(IE: Having leads in many places on the Internet, easy to add or change images/information, creative, etc..)
I am a college student with no income at the moment, so my funds to have the site created, (and more importantly, to maintain,) are limited.
Thanks..

My suggestions would depend on your decision to just post photos to a sharing site, or have your own. There are several names that pop up when questions such as yours are posted. Zenfolio and Flickr are two of the most popular.

However, these are not something I would care to use as a primary site as they are not identified as mine. I'd recommend a real hosting site. In addition to my site, which has been hosted at Interwrx for years, I've also got two other hosting servers through Ipower. Ipower offers a pretty good price and reliable servers, but any hosting service is going to require that you know something about writing html, a the minimum, and how these servers work.

Yes, they have technical support, but that is geared more towards server issues than your personal code. I hope some of this helps.

http://www.zenfolio.com

They host your images, and allow you to let viewers order prints from labs. Much more, as well. Check out their tour video.

Many pros and amateurs alike have used this service.

I'll say this . . . to create a web site, that you'll be proud of, to showcase your work is not cheap. Unless you're technically inclined, you'll need someone to maintain it for you. It's far better using one of the 'prepared' sites that are suggested in other posts here. (i.e.SmugMug, etc.) I personally like 500px.com, but there's also DeviantArt and a host of others.

Not to dismiss all the above, in fact I have a Smugmug presence, but one option is an inexpensive domain all your own--about $8 a year--and a low-cost account on an isp (I use ixwebhosting.com) which has a $40 a year plan. Then add Wordpress at no cost. That's a little higher than Smugmug and Zenfolio, but you also get free email on your own private domain. That alone is a step up from gmail, hotmail, etc. (How great would that be, "Buddah@Myphotos.us" Wordpress makes it very easy to add photo galleries at no charge.

The good thing is that you are promoting your work only and you can do all manner of creative things with you presentation to highlight it.

The bad is it costs a very few bucks more and does require just a little learning. Of course, you are in collitch so learning is a foreign word. :-)

Wow..
I just came off of your site. The "dedication" and "in memory of" section is enough to warrant a visit. And I love the calibration and "introduction" parts..
While I would LOVE to have a site such as yours, my ignorance of digital, (being new to it,) plus my advancing years... (60 next month,) means I probably don't have the time..
Thanks for the comments and believe me when I say that they (and the ones from other members,) are VERY appreciated..

I have done just what you want to do. I purchased Freeway 7 Pro and designed my own. I got a domain name for the site ( barrypictures.com ) and upload it to MacHighway.com. (BTW: Freeway os a Mac only outfit.)

I put 4 to 6 pics on each edition... perhaps two weeks apart. it is working quite well. But then... I'm (almost) 82 and have the time.

Take a look. It might give you ideas. barrypictures.com

Good luck.

Thank you very much for the wonderfully kind compliments.

I'm a bit older than you, but still have many years to go. I'm planning on forever. So far, I'm on schedule.

I'd advise first get the digital photography part down. Without that, what good would any site be? In the mean time, there are awesome tutorials on just simple html that would be quite easy to learn. But, first, the photography. That's where to start.

No html coding required. I used Wix to build one of my sites as well. It took some time and a small learning curve, but the site looks professional and works as it should. I bought my own domain name through Wix as well. Check it out http://www.aperturephotoventures.com
by the way your site looks good as well

Great finishing sentence.
How computer literate do I need to be to host my own site? It was my understanding that it is a bit "over my head!"
And what is Wordpress?

Bob;
I don't want to open a dialogue here, but it is my opinion (and you would know what an "opinion" is!) that digital (like film,) is the tool, and photography, (like painting,) is the art. Some have the "tools" down, (not I,) some the "art," (yes I,) and a SMALL percentage, (such as yourself,) both.
So I continue on my path, both ignorant in my knowledge, and satisfied in my ignorance...
