Very interesting observation. I purchased a refurbished camera. As has already been discussed on this forum to the nth degree, I'm curious what the shutter count is. So, I snapped my first photo, loaded it and found the shutter count was 46. Cool. 45 photos taken before it was delivered.
Interesting, though, I am using a brand new memory card and the file sequence number is _DSC2477.NEF. hmmm. Methinks that the shutter count was reset during refurbishing process.
Trust me, I have no complaints. I'm loving the camera.

Or perhaps the shutter was replaced?

Sweet. Even better.
When I buy refurb, I want it to be as good as new, or better. As has also been discussed here to the nth degree, shutter count is not all that matters.
When introduced to my main squeeze, I was told she had a shutter count of 45. Somehow on her next birthday that number jumped to 52. Still going strong at 63, so no complaints. :XD:

Either way, it's too low to worry about.

Its a Nikon, and Nikon never resets the shutter count no matter what is done to the camera. The sequence numbering can be set to anything you want to set it to. 46 IS the actual shutter count on that body.

That's good to know. Thanks for the feedback.

Are you sure the camera wasn't re set to factory settings. And the card count set to reset each time as opposed to continuous ? Just a thought.

MT- How would one even go about resetting the sequence number. Don't want to, just wondering how. Didn't know one could.

Look in your camera menu...file settings.
Well, I see NEF so it's a Nikon. In the Menu, I believe it is under Custom Shooting. I reset the sequence number for every wedding.
1 - Format all the cards
2 - reset Sequence numbers
3 - change picture naming
If you reset the sequence number before formatting the card you sometimes don't get what you want.
All this talk about Nikon not setting/resetting shutter count causes me to retell my story. I had sent my D600 in for one of the cleanings before they finally replaced it with a D610. When the camera was first sent in it had 6xx clicks--when I received it back it had 12,xxx clicks!!!! Don't bother trying to get a straight answer from Nikon as to the count difference. And this was after they had replaced the shutter!!
