Took this photo from the field behind my house in Orange Virginia. I would like some input on this photo, good or bad that way I can learn and take photos correctly. Thanks to all for your input.

It is pretty good as it stands.

We really need the shot with 'store original' checked to get it larger to see detail.

But: Lighten the house and land a little so you can see it or darken it to make it a total silhouette. Was the shot done in jpeg or raw?

I might also shave a little more off the bottom to put more attention to the sky.

I get the impression this image is already cropped a lot.

Thank you for all the input. Didn't you much cropping just tilted the camera more to the sky. I will resend it and mark it as original.

Great sky! And you managed to keep all the detail in it! The ground is pretty dark and would possibly benefit from some local brightening. What software do you use for your photos? Checking "store original" will help us help you more.

Because of the difference in brightness of sky and land, and the relatively flat horizon, this one would have been a good candidate to use a graduated neutral density filter with.

Keep enjoying your journey, you're in the right track!

Minniev,
Thank you for the input and encouragement. I have lightroom 5.7 but I haven't made any changes to the photo yet. I also resent it with another and checked the original box so they could be downloaded for better viewing. Again thank you.

Got the resend and tried to use NIK tone mapping in Photo Shop CC but everything started breaking down in the dark areas.
Colors come out fine, but structure breaks down.

Then I checked the properties. Only 800x480 pixels. Either it was resized for posting or it is a very tiny sensor in your camera. What camera?

Do you have the original shot full size? Was it JPEG or RAW?

Attempt with tone mapping (artificial HDR)

Try applying a grad filter in LR from the bottom raising shadows/slightly raising exposure, adding noise reduction, then fiddle with whether you need extra contrast, saturation, WB adjustment in the gradient. The top looks OK as is, but most skies benefit from at least a bit of clarity in LR, just to make them pop.

Nothing bad about this image, in my opinion. Just the one thing about lightening up the foreground. Otherwise, a good imageĀ…

If you click "quote reply" instead of "reply" we will know who you are answering. If it is a long quote then you can highlight and delete most of it leaving just enough for us to know which message the reply is to.

You use lightroom 5.7 so the original is there, go to develop, open the shot and in history on the left go down to the original "import". click on that and the original will appear. Then go to file, down to export and export a copy in jpeg to desktop. Then on your post in UHH choose that image, check "store original" and "send". That will give us a download of the original in full size jpeg, not the down sized image for the web.
