What is the Nikon equivalent to the L lens? Is it the ED lens or the Nano lens?
ED. The Nano is a coating.

MT...so my 28-300mm is the equivalent of an L? I know that Nano is a coating, but they are also the most expensive and considered "pro level" Nikon lenses.
Yes. But just wait for the Canon guys to start screaming now.
The "L" basically means it contains at least one flourite glass element.

Does the ED contain a fluroite glass element or something equivalent?
Isn't "L" for luxury?
I'm not aware of any Nikon lenses with nano coating that aren't pro lenses.

L lenses we don't need no stinking l lenses, or mamby pamby white colored lens!!! NIkonoains know that all their nikon lenses are good. we don't show it in the lens barrel we bring it with our photos.!!!!! lol i actualy don't understand this obsession with sharpness that you have to use a microscope to find distortion. even average glass will produce fine results when the photo is viewed at a normal distance, remember unlike many other camera companies, Nikon was and still is an optical company first. they control the entire manufacturing process from the sand pits for the glass to manufacture of the lens.

Nikon uses a proprietary formula. I have seen it written about but never saw the ingredients listed. Sigma also uses Flourited glass in their EX series lenses. Everybody has a different name for their patented secret processes.

The Nano coating is quite expensive and only reserved for Nikons Premium Pro lenses.
