Using a 7D With my newly acquired 400mm f5.6 L Prime
These were shot at 1/3200 F5.6 ISO 1000 Even on a bright sunny day at high noon I Had to pump up the ISO to maintain a fast shutter speed. No IS and f5.6 being the culprits. Would appreciate your thoughts on these images.
Thanks !

No critical comments required. Perfect! I'm impressed completely.

Thanks for your advice Phil. This lens is new to me and now being 66 I don't feel as steady as I once did. I'm going out to the bird preserve this weekend and try a lower ISO and shutter speed. Thanks again

I use a 60 D with the 100-400 Is lens For my bird photography and like to use ISO's and exposure's like you have. This works great for hand holding which I find that I need to do to catch the birds in flight. Would not worry about the 1000 ISO setting as your photo's look tack sharp and I don't see signs of noise.
Good Job!

I like #3, I do feel that straigting out the photo would help, also cropping it a bit so that the birds are not so centered. This is my suggestion, hopefully you don't mind.

I have heard that you want a horizon line to be either 1/3 toward the top or 1/3 toward the bottom. (that would be where the grass and water meet). Also maybe cut a little off of the left so the birds give the illussion of flying towards something. Giving the eye more to wonder about. I understand this can give a picture a more interesting appeal.

Very nice indeed!
And, another photography has proven that a good camera deserves a good lens to reveal it's potential. And vice versa.

Not all of it is the camera, and your pictures show this.
But, it makes it so much easier to capture thos emoments in life.
