Almost afraid to ask this question. I was going through my Nikon box looking for a cord to my camera, Because my card reader just konked out. Found this disc I've never installed. Don't have much room left on my PC. Question, what is it and should I download it? Am I missing something? The disc Is Nikon ViewNX2

View NX2 is Nikon's free editing / upload software. It works ok but not as good as Capture NX2 (which was their prime editing software before Google bought the company that helped) Capture NX2 sold for $200 but now has been replace with Caputer DX which also is free and not as good.
I use View NX for quick and dirty views and editing. For my serious stuff I use Lightroom. However, I still use ViewNX to look at finished shots to see how they will look outside of LR and because View NX is easier to move around outside of LR's catalogs.
My feeling is that it is anouther tool in your tool box and the price is right.

View NX2 is the software that is bundled with Nikon cameras, whereas Capture NX2 is a full-feature software that Nikon sells separately. If you capture images in (RAW) format which Nikon labels with NEF or NRW extension in the filename, both would be able to read the files nicely. Since you already have view NX2 it might be a good idea to give it a try for a few weeks/months etc.

Please note also that viewNX2 will also help you catalogue your pictures conveniently as well as many other functions. You will also be able to update and keep the software current through free web updates and have access to Nikon notes (about updates, other issues etc).

I still use Nikon Capture NX2. It's been the best for processing Nikon RAW files. I use the transfer function in View NX2 when transferring files from my card reader to my computer. It creates a new folder for you when it transfers files and numbers the folders in sequence.

Thanks but I don't know how to do that. I'm not a smart man. :!:

Click on the start button and enter disk cleanup in the search window. The program will show in the area above on the left. double click on it and follow the instruction.

If you have never done this it will free up much space on the hard drive. Suggest it be done at least once a month.

Computers leave all sorts of junk on the drives that just slow it down.

I use View NX2 and Capture NX2 for editing my photos. View NX2 has some editing capabilities but Capture is the powerhouse.

Hello Wesso, it looks like you and I think alike, I also have
decided to try RAW. I can say that ViewNX2 is a very good
program which allows you to view Raw and jpeg files from
your camera and manipulate them anyway you want. I am
just starting but it works very well, good luck.

I use ViewNX2 many times, it is a quick fix for pictures that do not need to be perfect. It does not take much space in the hard disk but uses quite a lot of memory.

I got ViewNX2 with my D750, used it a couple of times to compare against LR/PS, I'm sticking with LR/PS. The Nikon software is not too bad however the interface is not what I was used to so sticking with the Adobe products, choice is yours, you should at least try it to see if you like it, you can always blow it away.

When you said PC I assumed Windows.

I know nothing about Macs.
