Water Fowl ... Need a little C&C
Using a 7D With my newly acquired 400mm f5.6 L Prime
These were shot at 1/3200 F5.6 ISO 1000 Even on a bright sunny day at high noon I Had to pump up the ISO to maintain a fast shutter speed. No IS and f5.6 being the culprits. Would appreciate your thoughts on these images.
Thanks !
Wow!
Wonder how much that lens set you back...
The lens ran me 1249.00 I buy most of my gear online from Canoga Camera. They are located in California. Good people , Fair prices and great service.
Nice pic of the pair of spoonies!
Man..those are nice...can you re-post a few of them and choose "store original" when you do?
All Nice photos but love the third all were great captures

Is that No. 3 shot a couple of Northern Shovelers?
Great Captures.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks for posting.

I like #3 a lot, nice flight shot of that great looking pair in a wonderful setting.
One thought though...there is no way you should need to go to 1000 ISO on a bright day. 400 would be the absolute max and I'm guessing 200 is quite possible.
One way you could drop down your ISO is to drop down your shutter speed.
You don't need 3200 to stop action. That 400 5.6 does not have IS I know but you don't need that either. You should be able to successfully handhold a 7D with that 400 on and get crisp flight shots at 1250 or even 1000.
But I'm betting that in bright conditions, you can shoot those same birds at 1250-1600 at 5.6 using 200 ISO.
Yeah faster shutter speed will also help prevent possible camera shake but with practice you should be fine dropping down the ISO while maintaining a fast enough shutter.

Very Nice! excellent sharpness and color. On the third photo, I might have moved the ducks a little more to the left and cropped a some on the top and bottom. Great job over all.
