I'm an old in life but a child in regards to photography. When i retired i was looking for a hobby and decided to try photography. Well it didn't take long to be come addicted. I take my camera every where I go and never stop shooting. I bought an Olympus SP-810UZ. While it takes nice shoots it doesn't give me the options to get the really nice shot. In other words next to no manual settings. I want to upgrade to DSLR but I Live on a very tight budget and do not have much to spend. QVC has a nice payment plan and offer the Canon T3i and T2i. Could I get some advice from some experienced photographers please?

Don't shy away from used or refurbished equipment. Check with KEH, B&H, Adorama for starters. I'm sure there are other reputable used and refurbished dealers as well. If you have nothing in the way of lenses now you can go in any direction you find affordable. You'll always get the banter between the Canon and Nikon folks but you can add others the advanatage to Canon and Nikon is that they are both very popular so you'll find more used and refurbished equipment available.

Well the T3i is the upgrade and newer model of the T2i but either of them would be good. They have big megapixel counts and lots of other features.(I am not to sure what all they have because so I have only handled Nikons.) The T3i does have that articulating screen so that you can close it when you are putting your camera away and it will have less of a chance to be scratched. And since the screen moves you can use it to get different angles with the camera and look at the screen when your eye can't get to the viewfinder. I know we have several members who own these cameras, maybe they will chime in soon with their opinions.

Either is an excellent choice. The differences between the two are slight. The T2i is a little smaller, lighter, and have a faster start up time. The T3i has the articulated screen.

If you like QVC and want to shop with them, this is the package I would choose. It will take you a long way in getting started.

I have a Canon T2i and for the money right now is an excellent camera. Plus with Canon you get a set of software programs that are easy to use to keep track of your photos on your computer and do some basic editing. Right now on Amazon you can get a Canon T2i with both the standard 18-55 and 55-250 zoom lens for less than $800.

The Canon T2i is very popular and there are many books available that you can get to master all the features. I chose the T2i over the T31 because the articulated screen is something I don't need...I use the viewfinder when outdoors.

Which ever you choose you will be in the majority of Digital SLR owners as more folks buy Canon than any other brand.

Take a trip to the local camera or big box store and physically pick up the cameras you are interested in. Make sure they feel comfortable in your hands.

I f you can, at least look at the Canon 60D as I find it easier to use with the wheel control on the back of the camera which I have gotten used to and like much better than the buttons on the back of the T3i. With the T3i and T2i you push a button on the back to change the function of the top wheel from shutter to aperature adjustment. With the 60D, the back wheel is f stop adjust and the top one is shutter speed. It is much quicker for me this way, but I'm sure you would get used to either one you choose. In this post I'm referring to use on manual mode.

I have a T2i and I also recommend this camera as a starter camera.

If you need any help later, just ask.

One bit of advice as an option, look at some proven winners of the recent past. Most all brands have one or two cameras that were outstanding that can be bought at a more reasonable price. Use any savings for the best lens you can afford. These are the cameras most of us are using and they give good service without sacrifice of quality. This is how I made my choice. Happy hunting. This is a good option as you can purchase a 40D or 50D semi-pro camera for great prices right now. The only thing about these two is they don't do video which means nothing to me.

Hear, hear for the Rebel T2i with the two kit lenses that cover most everything of what you'll ever need. They're a great buy for versatility, resourcefullness and quality of results. Ya can't go wrong!
