I've always preferred landscapes to people, and when I started at UHH, I was surprised to see that I was in the majority. :D

Funny - I hope this didn't all happen to the same photographer.

Yeah, right before he decided to change professions.

Before I retired I worked for an advertising firm. They always demanded payment in advance. You sure lose a lot of potential customers, but so many of them don't want to pay anyway. So it's not a loss

Ya, pretty much my experience with my limited exposure to shooting people. Still, when I am able to get that one magical moment it makes it all worth it.

Back in the day when I was doing weddings, I had a very strong contract to protect myself from these occurrences.

One of the stipulations: 50% at contract signing, balance at the rehearsal. Never had a problem getting paid.

Another situation covered - I am not responsible for actions of your guests or others providing services for you.

I always knew upfront what the customer was buying - it was spelled out in detail in the contract.

Never did I have a potential client refuse to sign the contract.

My current photo teacher had us shoot people for our assignment, just two weeks ago. I had told the neighbors that if the teacher wants portraits, maybe I can use them as subjects. I borrowed a light meter from the teacher and he asked me if I was charging a "200 hundred dollar sitting fee"?
Thanx Jerry.

I wouldn't shoot people for money. That's why I only did about two weddings once I discovered, the hard way, that you can never please the mother.
