One great trick for hanging art, that I was taught, is to use real hangers and to use 2 for each frame. Make sure the frame is wired, ( very easy to do ) hang the wire on the two hangers. The hangers are place a few inches apart. This works well as once you get it centered, it will never move unless someone moves it. Saved me a few hours of trying to center the photos on one.

Sure glad I found this thread. Received my acceptance letter to do my first indoor show June 15/16 and your ideas and suggestions have been most helpful.
BTW for anyone out there who might need stand alone panels for displaying your work, let me suggest you check out pro panels....http://propanels.com/

CONGRATULATIONS!

Ever think of having them enlarged and printed on canvas. No frame needed. The two websites I looked at yesterday send them ready to hang, and one had a wire option instead of just sawtooth hanger. The websites are:

Mpix.com and WHCC (google them)
Search the sites for "gallery wraps"

I've never used either of these businesses, so this does not constitute an endorsement. Maybe someone else out there has experience with them.

I would like to print some of my pics on canvas. I think they'll look better for juried shows and sell better - AND no hassle of framing.

Blessings to you!

I have no experience selling pictures (yet) but in thinking of doing so, I believe I would only matte them - no framing. Reason being, they don't like your frame (wrong wood, wrong coloring, wrong width), they may not like your picture. Just matting only also holds your costs down allowing you to have a more attractive retail pricing.

Congratulations on this new venture. I hope it's super successful.

And how, may I ask, do you intend to hang your pictures on a wall. With chewing gum? The vast majority of photo buyers prefer their photos to be matted, framed (with glass) and ready to be hung. There is no such thing as "attractive retail pricing." Your photos are supposed to be "attractive," and your prices whatever the market will bear

Just as a suggestion, do not go crazy over ordering and stuff like that. Offer a simple card next to each display and state a price that is reasonable, this is not like you are well known. As said by Stef C, underpricing is a mistake and so is over pricing. Visit local art galleries and see what the market is.

Remember that folks expect quality, not wall mart print so, pay attention to that. Do not frame anything but present the sold picture on an acid free support.

Framed pictures have a way to kill sales so be careful there.
Just as a suggestion, do not go crazy over orderin... (show quote)

But matted and framed photos, hung on a wall, or stand, out sell unframed photos a hundred to one. Most people don't want to have to go to the trouble of having their new picture matted and framed after purchase. They want it ready-to-hang
when they purchase it.

These were some of the first pictures I took. Technically the bridge picture is way off I think. It's focused on those big wooden objects, its 3.5 which is not ideal for landscapes, but i got lucky with the composition. Hopefully it looks good blown up to 16x20

^^ Thank you. That is very good advice!

I was going to sell one 16x20, a few 8x10s, and some 5x7s. Is Do you think the 5x7s will be too small to sell?

The one sure thing is that if you don't put them out they won't sell. For the 5X7 you will probably want to put an oversized matte on them.

This is Art. I would do nothing smaller than 11X14 Perhaps a 24X30 a few 16X20. You may put a notice that grouping (smaller) sizes are avalable by request. - Dave

If people don't complain at least three times a day that your prices are to high, then they are to low. I wouldn't price each the same. I would put a premium on the bridge shot. You'll be surprised. I'll bet you sell the most of the highest priced picture. People like to have the best!
