When I turned on my Apple computer today I got a message that new software is available for download. A new icon appeared on my launchpad. It's Photos!
It was not obvious how to import all the images that are being managed by Aperture into Photos. :?:
I keep my images on an external drive. I closed both Aperture and Photos. I then opened the icon for my external drive on my desktop. I then dragged "Aperture Library" on top of the new Photo icon on my launchpad. Something is happening, I think it's working!!! It's reporting that it's 32% done with "Preparing Library".
This seems to be working.

I'm going to set the computer down and not touch it while it's doing it's thing.
See you later. :)
after you play for a bit , a report is strongly encouraged \ welcomed!

What OX S are you running on your Apple?
That did not take as long as I had feared it would.
After it was done importing it presented me with this screen.
I see that under the help tab, the is a "Quick Tour" and "Photos Help".
I'm going on a tour.
BTW, it found my wife's face and put her on the upper left, and my face and put my face on the upper right. How did it know!!!
The first screen after Photos loaded.

How nice of Apple! So good of them to do this kind thing! All they ever think about is the good of the user!

Fanboys rejoice!!!!
Please do let us know - I'm very interested in your thoughts vis-a-vis Aperture...

"Photos" will surely not be a "Lightroom killer," by any stretch. And you would think they could have imagined up a more distinctive name for it... ;)

The new app comes with OS 10.10.3 - probably not compatible with any older OS version. But I'm not going to test that here...

Good luck. You'll be our expert.
Not at the rate I'm going. I hate new learning curves :-(

I do not think you will find it much of a curve Dave.... from what I saw it was not even close to an Aperture replacement - might be better than iPhoto, but for me was too "simplistic". I am sure it will find thousands of users though that will love the iCloud subscription needs ;)

I do NOT have an iCloud account.
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8747/16883256517_0ecc406719_h.jpgI uploaded an image to flickr from Photos.
Lets see if this works,
Maybe it's me but this program is really dumbed down!
I thought I would be able to at least export an image to PhotoShop and edit it there, and return the edited image to "Photos". Apparently not!
It might be me. I'll make a trip to the Apple store and take a class and ask a lot of questions. So far I'm very disappointed!
I think Apples "Photo" program is meant for boys and girls and grandmothers, not the kind of folks who visit UHH.
I liked Aperture but it Appears that Apple is forcing me into Light room.
