  Like one of those end of the world scenarios.
There was probably a fortune to made if someone rescued those classics in time. Same with the autos in Cuba.

Difference in Cuba is that they kept them all running out of necessity. I have a feeling that once our relations with Cuba are normalized a lot of those cars may end up back in the USA in the hands of collectors. :-D
The cars may be gone now but the mystery remains.

I would expect it was people trying to escape certain areas at the end of the war. Just a guess.

You pilot a boat like I do. Standing to the side with one hand on the wheel. Except the other is normally holding a cold beer.

  Not on a sailboat, even if I have it on auto-pilot. When sailing I leave the drinking to when I am anchored or moored in the marina. Of course that doesn't stop my guests from drinking unless they are crewing. Too many things can go wrong on a sailboat, specially in a blow.
