It is NOT "the war between the States!!" That is a southerner"s attempt to perpetuate the idea that states were individual entities that could secede from the Constitution they signed.

The official government name is "The War of the Rebellion," and documents from that period in the Library of Congress are titled that way.

Overtime, the "Civil War" has become the accepted neutral title of that event.

Oh it is "The War Between the States". And that terminology is widely accepted as well. A civil war is an internal strife or conflict. The War Between the States was a war between two separate countries two different entities, not a "civil" war. The southern or Confederate states had every legal right to secede from the United States. That has been argued to death and is "settled science" as you lefties like to say. An emotional issue I know and you may think differently or feel differently but you would be wrong.

People from the south call it the war between the states. Texas wants to secede from the union.

That is correct and some in the south and even many in the north today realize the several causes of that awful conflict compared with what this country is facing today lands the south in the clear position to say "see I told you so"!
In addition to Texas speaking of secession and Texas is a unique case (the Supreme Court today would probably uphold Texas' right to secede) there are many other states and localities that are talking about breaking away. If that were to happen in any large scale hopefully it could be settled peacefully. But, this country is so polarized and divided today that I believe we are rapidly reaching a point where the only way any kind of "union" can be salvaged would be to break this country up into two or more countries. Below would be one proposed map and there are many other floating around. This issue has been discussed by some pretty serious people.
