I hope that nobody is thinking even for a second that I am agreeing with this article and what it is implying...all I wanted to do is poke fun at Wolfie. Can't a girl harass someone in peace? Jeeeesh.

See? That's what happens in electronic venues. Perhaps wolf's right after all. We should abolish all Internet communication, and just have one big gathering. Texting and posting would be replaced with, oh, I don't know, actual face to face communication? And then we'd move on to the next group of people, and jump in on their "thread"? Oh, forget it. It'll never catch on.

Wolf, I share your sentiments, but with less anger at the system and less disgust for those who seem not to be capable of operating wthout a cell phone. I admit to not owning a cell phone but I have never experienced an urgent or emergency situation that having a cell phone would have benefited.

I am not angry. I am disappointed that we let technology take over our work place and that it is now in the process of killing our social skills and needs.

I have no disgust for those who fall onto the trap, only regrets and pity.

The above example of misinterpretation is demonstrating how one can be placed in an awkward position w/o having said anything one way or another.

Modern communication is without dimension and does not allows to acknowledge the limitations created by the lack or personal contact that offers a fuller reading of a person intention though observations like a barely hidden smile, a tilt of head, a hand motion, a body posture... and on and on...

When I state that an avatar is a 'representation' of a deep part of yourself than one thinks, I have reasons. Between those that hide, those that want to be 'in your face' and those who understand, there are so many other things... Mine is disturbing, I like it that way. This should tell you a lot.

You want to learn about a UHH user? Take the time to read their posts w/o context by using their profiles history... There are surprises waiting some pleasant some... Well, never-mind.

This is the only way we have, in a forum, to learn as one is not capable of always hiding. I have made folks really upset by pointing this out in PM. I make my opinion on a user by reading their posts, out of context. I keep this opinion private but some time I explode (as I just did yesterday).

I try to inform folks on this here: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-29196-1.html (bottom of the page)

On a phone or texting? It gets worse, there is no historical record to back-on to, no clue as to the real context is. Now they want us to think about becoming 'ringers' to our own defeat? Sorry, I will never play that game. My 'under the rock' refuge is 'confi'. Come near it and lash out.

Wolf, I share your surprise and disappointment as far as people getting an "electronic" tattoo.

I too miss the time when face to face communications was the norm

Any device or appliance I own is for my convenience. There has been more than one day I carried a turned off phone all day. And Thank Goodness for caller ID !!!
I never owned a CB radio--I don't text--I still carry a map so I can figure out if that lady in my GPS is sending me on a route I wouldn't choose.

I had occasion to be around a middle school age girl and was amused by her constant texting. Then it occured to me that these young people have never been alone! I wonder what the long term ramifications will be for them, and all of us.

You could put the cell phone on the "Do-Not-Call" list.
It works most of the time.

I'll bring the marshmellows as we sit around one massive campfire! At work, I mostly refuse to call people; let's meet face to face. Quite laborious but ohhhh soooo effective. I am techie but I still believe in analog devices, gasolinefueled autos, and the "don't call me; I'll call you!" point-of-view (it's even better when they don't leave a number!--You can leave yours tho').

One last thing, as we sit around the monster fire and sing Kum-ba-ya, we could discuss PHOTOGRAPHY without worrying about grammar and spelling! Now we're talking. Guess that won't happen also. As much as I pride myself in knowing the English language (American at least), I can't stand spelling and grammar Czars at a blog site. Besides spell check doesn't "sketch" all mistakes. OOPS! i.e. "catch".

This has been a fun itty-bitty thread.

My b-day is Dec 21...end of the world day. Am planning a large bonfire and BYOB or BYOM (bring your own marshmallows) Ya'll can come and sit around the fire, fall in the creek and NOBODY will be allowed to criticize grammar. And cell phone reception is nil up here. You can even discuss girlfriends...bringing them is optional.

I did that so I wouldn't get telemarketers calling me

When will it become a probe up someone's neither region to make them answer the call of some telemarketer if you refuse the call?

I am all for progress but there are limits, one of them being the human body modified for someone else convenience.

I agree with you   I don't answer my phone at work ( if I brought it that day ) or if Im in line at a store. I have had strangers ask me if I'm gonna answer my phone and I just look at them and say NO...I get the strangest looks...I often leave my phone at home when I go to work Or just take off for a while and some people think that is weird...
