Nikon D7200 vs D7000

I love the upgrage the D7200 provides from my D700 - especially low light performance. I've attached 2 photos taken in my darkened wine cellar with the same 35mm Nikon 1.8G lens on each camera tripod mounted. I could not have taken this photo hand held with the D7000 since I was at maximum iso of 6400 and the fastest shutter speed was 1/8 sec. The D7200 took the photo at 1/25 sec which would have given me a clear hand held shot- even with my septagenarian tremor.
My only complaint is with Nikon - not the camera. The new micro USB connector cord, which makes my collection of old cords obsolete, is only 2 feet long and doesn't reach the USB port on my CPU which sits on the floor. I guess I'll start downloading directly from the cards. Also Nikon didn't include a hot shoe cover (which was included with my D7000) which I ordered separately from B&H for $2. Nikon support said they didn't plan to make a longer cord. Perhaps if enough of us complain, they or some 3rd party will make a longer one.

I hate those micro USB cords. What a nuisance. As for the length of the cord, on the few occasions that I use a cord, rather then Eye-Fi, I put the camera right on top of the computer.

Check some camera comparisons to confirm you choice of the D7200.

Oh man.....lead me not in to temptation. I keep telling myself that my D7000 is just fine, don't need to upgrade (and I really don't NEED to....)but I'm feelin' a GAS attack coming on.

If you want to upgrade and keep the D7 designation, why not jump right to the D750? :D

Because Dear Jerry, while I'm developing GAS and possibly will need a camera fix to cure it, I'm kind of attached to dear hubby and would like to keep him for a while. While he will question and "discuss" and possibly even grumble a bit, if I come up with good reasons why the 7200 would be better he probably wouldn't care too much about spending $1200 for a new toy. HOWEVER....if we start talking about a 750, and all the new lenses I'd have to have to go with it...I'm pretty well sure his indulgence would come to a screeching halt and life wouldn't be purdy at my house.
;-)
Now, we could start talking about the $$$ we've put into his 72 Cutlass in the last month or two....yeah, I could've probably gotten an 810 and a nice stable of lenses.

Yeah, spending twice the amount of money would make a difference. And yes, I know how a car can be a money pit.

Yeah, it is, but he loves it, and he works a ton of OT to have his fun $$$.

Good for him. Fun is a major part of life, or at least it should be.

You can get the cable from Cables-To-Go. They sell directly or through Amazon. They make good cables.

On the other hand, I have been downloading from the cards since my first P&S Fuji. I often blow through more than one card in a photo shoot anyway. I always set up the second card to be a backup duplicate; a result of having lost a shoot when my sdcard failed.

I bought a little device that allowed me to connect 2 USB cables together. I use it with the short cord supplied by Nikon and it works just fine. I forget where I found it online, but Amazon probably also sells it. I t also works with USB 3 protocol if you need that.

First, you need to take another look at the ISO settings of your D7000. The Hi 2.0 setting is ISO 25,600, which means you could have shot with the D7000 at 1/25 second too. Also your D7000 shot is much cleaner - less noise.

Try comparing the two cameras at the same ISO setting with RAW images. Using Jpegs straight from the camera could be misleading since quite different amounts of noise correction may be applied in making in-camera Jpegs with these two cameras. If you do this carefully don't be surprised if you find that the "low noise capability" of the D7000 with its larger pixels equals that of the D7200, is very close, or may even be superior!

Good information. Glad you posted. The D7000 image is cleaner.

Sounds tome like Gas has gotten a strong hold on you. A lot of sweet talking goes a long way.

Like an extension cord? I have a couple of them. Very handy.
