EXIF data brings down congressman

My congressman, Aaron Schock of Illinois just resigned his position amid a spending scandal (not a big scandel but big enough, it seems.)
He apparently was billing tax payers for private jet flights he was taking on some of his donors' planes.

The Associated Press (AP) caught him because he was rather vain and liked uploading photos of himself on Instagram. They downloaded the photos and found the GPS locations in the EXIF data. Then the AP matched that up with FAA records of the private planes.

It all seems pretty cool that someone was smart enough to do that. Big Brother is watching.

That and the fact that he tried to seek reimbursement from taxpayers for 170k miles that he allegedly traveled in his personal SUV, while the odometer actually read 80k miles.
It is also hinted in the press that additional questionable spending will eventually become public. Can charges be far behind?

It's too bad. He was a sharp young man. I think he was elected to a city council while still in high school. But somewhere his vision changed. A shame.

If it is anything like the UK - no.
Dozens of MP's were caught seriously fiddling expenses but only about 3 were eventually charged - probably because the government couldn't find enough white-wash to cover their misdeeds.
