I looked into the D7100--very nice camera, but a bit heavy, no touch screen and no WiFi--the D5500 is considerably lighter in weight and more compact, and has both touch screen and WiFi. I like the fact that the D7100 is weather sealed, but apart from that, I think I'm sold on the D5500, which I don't think is available refurbished at this time.

Don't forget that the d7100 also has an camera motor so it can auto focus with non AFS lenses . This would also account for some of the extra weight .
