Here are two pics of the same eagle. I'm no pro, so it isn't too hard. Wide open lens, focus on the animal, not the fence. Seems to work for me.

Thing is you don't need photoshop when you have physics. By having the focal plain beyond the fence and on the animal the fence blurs so much it becomes undetectable. You would need a bigger cage for your possum though, much bigger.

Get in the cage with them or let them out.

I will be heading to the Zoo on Wednesday, this is the first time I will be going and taking my camera and not having it set on Auto, kinda excited to see what happens!
I was enrolled in a photography class and the instructor said in the Photography II class she would tell us how to take a picture but not have the bars from the cage show up, that class was cancelled because not enough people signed up, bummer for me. Can anyone tell me how to do what she was talking about? TIA.

well first you gottsa get in the cage :(
noooo... Others have kinda described it. Shallow depth of field / f1.8 or less would be good. Manual focus on the subject. spot or dynamic metering preferred. Your still gonna have bars but they will be somewhat dissolved into the foreground. Have fun at the zoo :)

Parallel thinking. Get inside the cage.

I hope the animals cooperate, I noticed a lot of animals seem to purposely face away from the visitors. Apes and monkeys not so much, some of them are real people watchers but a lot of animals ...

That's why you live in New Zealand. The correct spelling is Opossum, and he gets mad when you try to take him out of his cage.😜

Same spelling as our Opossum as well but easier to say possum
I had 13 pet opossums when I lived on our farm years ago. Some of them especially the ones I reared from the pouch were very tame. I think our opossums are more beautiful

Thanks, I think, what kind of lens is that. Looks huge? You must have a lot of money.
