Microwave popcorn is bad for you because of the artificial "butter" and all the salt. I buy regular popcorn, place about 1/4 to 1/3 cup in a plain brown paper bag and pop it for 3 to 3 1/5 minutes. You can add the amount of salt, butter or other seasons that you want.

I remember that episode, and I tried to buy one of those suits, but it was too expensive. Also, just how clean is that floor?

I tried the Reddenbacher bowl that is almost all plastic. I will never do that again. How good can heating plastic be and how much gets into the popcorn. I will not be eating that again. Too many chemicals in plastic to have them in my body.

Got a "crank" corn popper... Farm/Fleet.... 1974.... it still works like new... it might be a little black inside.. but that makes for a better taste. Heat popper on high for a minute.. One ounce of cooking oil.. small juice glass 1/2 full of "small kernels" . . . close cover,... keep turning crank... 30 seconds later U have a large bowl of popcorn... plus sum left over for the birds.

I use one of those too. Quick, convenient, no mess to clean up and pops all the kernels without oil.
But I do use salt and butter. I couldn't eat naked popcorn!

The best popcorn I've ever made was when I got a cob of popping corn, put it in a brown paper bag and microwaved it. Perfect, and healthy. The best part was eating popped kernels still on the cob. Don't forget to staple the bag, or you'll have a mess.

HINT: just in case you should scorch your micro-popcorn,
don't throw out the microwave -- just put a bowl of 1/2 cup water with 1 Tablespoon vanilla for a 2 minute cycle - repeat, if necessary, leave door open.

I like popcorn, but I keep seeing articles about how bad microwave popcorn is, for various reasons. After doing a lot of online looking, I got a Whirley Pop stove-top popper, and I love it. It's not as easy as sticking the bag in the microwave for a minute, but the results are much better - and much less expensive.

I tried the Reddenbacher popping corn, but I prefer the Pop-Secret.

I think I will pass on this thing.

PS You might want to remove the 's' after the 'http' in the future. Or not. It's up to you.

I, too, gave up microwave popcorn due to the oils in it. The oil is solid at room temperature - not good. After going thru a couple of Stir Crazy poppers (excellent popper, by the way), I decided to "upscale" and get one of those movie theater poppers sans the cart. It is US made. The downside of this popper is cleaning it. I have to spend about ten minutes wiping out the spattered oil on the inside. Also, the popper kettle is not immersible. I gave up trying to keep it pristine. So, no one uses it but me, so I quit worrying what it looks like.

I prefer Amish popcorn; I just ran out and had to settle for Orville's. No where near as good as the varieties the Amish grow and sell. You can find Amish popcorn on the web. As for oil, my preference is peanut oil.

I also like the Amish popcorn, but my oil of choice is bacon grease. Not a healthy, but sure taste good.

I don't remove it, there is usually somebody who will. Otherwise I just highlight/copy/paste in a new tab.

I do mine the old fashioned way - cooking oil in a pan, cover the bottom with popcorn, and crank it up. No butter.

I'm not nearsighted. My eyes just have good bokeh.

I just put a few kernels in a brown lunch bag, fold over the top quite tightly and throw it in the microwave. About 2.5 to 2.75 minutes later I have some nice popcorn to nibble on.

What's with the PS; you might want to remove the "s"? If it it works which it has for me with or without the "s", what difference does it make?

welcome to the world of Whirlypop, I have been using that contraption for years, am on my third one, keep wearing them out. The best thing about it is how little oil you have to use, much healthier

Hmmmmmm 10" stainless steel Skillet, 1/2 cup of ANY popcorn (and oddly enough, I rate Reddenbacher dead last) 3tbs olive oil/canola oil put on medium high heat, put in 3 kernals, when first one Pops, (about 45sec) put in the rest... 2 mins later put in large container, add Garlic Salt and powdered Parmesan Cheese and enjoy....

By the way, the Skillet came to Illinois from Florida when we moved back, so it is at least 39 yrs old

Yep, I do it that way too ! I use Extra Virgin Olive oil. (Don't know is there is a Regular Virgin Olive oil. Maybe there is even a Whore Olive oil, but I'm not an expert.)

I have been using the Whirley Pop for years. Only way to do popcorn at home. I use Bob's Red mill white premium popcorn. It pops to the almost last kernel and melts in your mouth. I use a little bit of real butter, organic coconut oil and popcorn salt. Heavenly.

I'm not a popcorn aficionado Jerry but (you probably know this) don't ever stick those Teflon-coated (or derivative of) cardboard containers they come in, in the micro wave. They say it's ok to and a lot of take-away food comes in those containers but the coating to make food non-stick is bad news especially when "zapped!"
