Aussie Brolgas.

Brolgas are Australia's answer to Sandhill Cranes. There are four main differences. The Brolga is a blue/gray color--the Sandhill Crane is brownish. The Brolga is a little larger. The red head markings are slightly different. The Brolga is non-migratory.
I'm not sure about the Sandhill's habits, but the Brolga doesn't usually take off when approached--they simply walk away, usually to a protected area to hide (marsh grass or trees etc). I have seen thousands of Brolgas but have rarely seen one in flight. Because they don't migrate, I suppose they don't have a lot of need for flight. Downloading is recommended.
Fantastic shots, Earl, and very much like the Sandhill Crane. By the way, the Sandhill Crane is a brownish color only in the summer and in juvie plumage. In winter the color is the same as these.

Great shots Earl attractive birds. There was a lone Sandhill near the lake where we were staying and I went out to take a shot. Problem I had he kept coming up to me and I had to keep moving back to get all of him in the shot!! :D
Great seat, Earl! Really good looking birds!

Thanks for looking, ladies (& Corky). :-) :-)
Well done, DOOK, and I appreciate the narrative. I live where there are neither so I find it all interesting.
