I shot these today about 4000 ft away and minutes before sunset.
Purpose of the shoot was to get a sense of the size of this ship. I originally thought I was only 1/2 mile away but when I checked a map of the area, the shipping lanes were almost 4/5 miles beyond where I made the shots.

They had this on the news last night saying it was the biggest ship to go under the bridge. Must of been cool to see.
Yes, it is so far the largest ship ever to enter SF Bay.
2 things: They need straightening. Duh. But what would really be neat is if you reload them and click on "store original". We can see them much larger this way. They are too cool to be shown this small.

Okay, I was trying to following rules for downloading pics.
Description on picture #5 should be for #6. Still trying to figure out all the nuances for downloading info.
Thanks for the larger pix. Man, that ship is huge! I wonder how it compares to our largest aircraft carrier?

This ship is a bit over 1200 ft. It is so large that it had to wait until low tide to sail in and out of the Bay to clear the bridges. There are other container ships that are even bigger. Largest aircraft carriers are a bit over 1000 ft. I've been on the U.S.S. Carl Vinson and that was a big ship.
I wonder if any of the products on that ship were made in America!

I hear it is enroute to China.
I wonder if that containers are empty or full? I had heard that sometimes they go back empty.
