I am going back to Atlantic Beach for a visit with my siblings and we have rented a beach house for a week in the middle of May. I have seen comments on Fort Macon & the Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail and am wondering if any of you can give me advice on best times for visiting and things other than those two places I might find photogenic. As always your comments are appreciated.
Atlantic Beach in which state? Florida has one, as do several others. But I don't recognize those other places!
If the state is South Carolina, Do Not, Don't Come, during the Memorial Day Bikefest. Insane Horror. Nudity in parking lots, Jap bikes going down the city roads 80 mph, etc.
This has "No" relation to the Harley weeks, they are civilized and lots of fun.

Hmm, let's see ... Tar Heels, that would be New York. :-)

Could be New Jersey. 😃
You are talking about Emerald Isle, NC ? They have a nice aquarium there also. I believe it is South of Atlentic City.
Sorry! I meant to say Atlantic Beach. Fort Macon is a must.

On a seriou note. Hoop Hole maritime nature preserve is a fantastic place for nature photography. You are on 31 acres next to the water in Atlantic Beach, NORTH CAROLINA. Visited there a couple of times, very nice.
Greetings from New Bern, NC. we're about 35 miles from the beach. Both wife & I are photo buffs & take day photo trips to the beach area. Besides one of the best Aquarium on the east coast & the Fort they have a couple of fishing piers which are fun to walk out & see what people are catching.
Cross over the bridge back to the mainland & you'll find Beaufort ( pronouced Bow-ford) a very old seaport town. They have the Maritime museum with Blackbeard, the pirate, ship Queen Ann's Revenge.
Also, You can only get there by ferry but near by Shackelford banks has over 200 wild horses that live on the island.Great chance to get some really special photos.
Lots of other choices in the area. Best to stop at visitors center in Morehead city to get lots of ideas. Hope this helps. wbGiorgio

It does help. I am going to be there the 13th to the 20th of May and I know I will be looking for things to do. I am a fan of old stuff so the Fort is a must visit and the Maritime Museum sounds good too. I guess my Sister that lives there might have another place or 3 picked out as well.
Another place to visit is Hammock Beach Museum in Swansboro. In the Spring and Summer you can take a ferry over to Bear Island which is the beach area. They have some type of reserve there, but I don't recall what it is for. Very nice place. We love to go to Emerald Isle. They have many historic places just about any town you are in, esp. Beauford where somebody else spoke of for you. Enjoy your trip!
