Tom Corbett Space Cadet was my favorite show in the early 1950s. Thought I died and went to Heaven when Star Trek premiered and couldn't believe that it lasted only 3 seasons, but I was quite happy with all the various spinoffs that Star Trek generated. I'm really hoping to live long enough to see a working food replicator, and it seems we are getting close to those wonderful medical little hand scanners used by the Medical Team. Gene Roddenberry's imagination seems to have been prophetic in the many areas of technology.

I remember all of the aforementioned (Space Patrol, Commando Cody, Space Cadets, Space Rangers, etc.). They were standard Saturday morning kiddie TV fare, to which I will add Captain Video, and back on earth The Cisco Kid, The Range Rider, Sky King, Annie Oakley, Rin Tin Tin, Wild Bill Hickok, Hoppy Cassidy, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, etc. All between 1949 and 1955.

And of course, all the cartoon favorites, too numerous to mention.

My son is 42 and he swears that I grew up in the best times possible, and I'm inclined to agree. We had a childhood, which unfortunately the kids today do not have because their parents would be horror struck at letting their kids go off sledding, skating, hiking, with other kids in the neighborhood. We didn't have to worry so much about the child molesters that are so prevalent today. On a Saturday or on summer days we were off for the whole day if we packed a fluffernutter sandwich. But, we always knew that our mothers would be home when we did go home. We all watched out for each other and there didn't seem to be the problem with bullying that there is today. I wouldn't want to be growing up today. The kids do not seem to have much real fun. Their time is structured, and their moms pick their friends with 'play dates', school yard games are a thing of the past. And they wonder why so many kids are on Ritalin today. Years ago we were free to get out and get rid of all that excess energy that seems to be just bottled up in kids today, so they call them hyper-active and slip them little yellow pills. Sad, just sad.

I loved the Terra V, United Planets flagship.

Hey, how about Captain Video? That was on the old Dumont Broadcasting System. Only broadcasted in Phily, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C. and New York in the early 50s.
