This is the truth!!! McDonalds can not make change.

My brother and I went thru the drive thru. We ordered two cups of coffee. Our order came to Two Dollars and sixteen cents. I gave the guy at the window two dollar bills and two dimes and a penny. I expected a nickel back. Instead the cashier leaning out the widow said, "Here is your four cents change and the extra penny you gave me".

I said "What?", looking at my five pennies.

I could not believe what had happen.

It would be funny if it wasn't so damned true. :(

My favorite trick in a fast food chain is to hand the clerk a $10 bill and tell them what the change is--they wonder why I am faster than the computer. I knew we were doomed in 1969 when the Hot Shoppes installed computers with pictures of the entrees so the clerks would not have to run a ten-key. Thirty years later I walked into my local Burger King and was informed they could not sell food because the computer was down.

Very funny all.

I am reminded of two to add.

1) Boss of mine used to have a 1 dollar bill framed on the wall behind his desk, in hopes people visiting him in his office would ask about the significance of the framed bill.

His response was always the same,

"First dollar bill I ever made, Quarter of an inch too long."

Many responses..... "Oh, Wow!"

2) A friend used to go into the counter at fast food joints, and he would ask the cashiers, "do you take foreign currency?". They would invariably say, "Gee, I don't know sir, let me get the manager". The manager would arrive and state, "No sir, we don't take foreign currency."

My friend would then say, "Darn, I have these Canadian quarters burning a hole in my pocket." Often put the manager on the spot, but to keep face in front of his/her employees..... well, you know how the rest goes.

Plenty more where those came from,..... but it's your thread.

OK... one more. I was traveling through the SouthWest with a new friend. We stopped at a diner for lunch. When we came out, he took the pennies he got in change and threw them up in the air. I asked him why. He said, the kids coming out of the restaurant with their parents just loved finding those pennies.

True stories all.

Oh wow. It took me quite a while to stop laughing. The sign at the end really got to me. Wonder if it works?

D-ave (The dash is silent.)

In 1967, the Federal (I almost wrote Feral) government entered into the realm of financing primary and secondary education. NCLB and Race to the Top are merely later additions to LBJ's dream. In 1968 I was told that disarming a kid with a knife was not an appropriate response for a teacher. I then decided that I would go into law enforcement.

Walked into a Subway once and ordered a salad. The employee of the week asked if I wanted it toasted. I replied "It's a salad". He said "I know, would you like it toasted?". I then replied "IT'S A SALAD, YOU DON'T TOAST A SALAD". All the other employees laughed pretty hard at him for his epic brain fart.

I would like to think these are all made up - that no one could be this dumb. But sadly, I suspect that they are real. I interviewed someone once for a position - they had been kicked out of the Army because, they explained, they had an "Intellectual learning disorder". Wouldn't that just be a fancy term for being dumb?

Well, the register is a POS (Point of sale) computer, in addition to adding up your order and figuring out the change, it keeps track of the person using it's hours, and they will be responsible for any lost change, why they stick to a routine… cause they can't afford to make a mistake, each time an item is sold it deducts that from inventory and sends the order to screens in the back to the cook, all over the place… the information is all sent to a data base at the central office so they can place an order for many stores at once, then distributed to individual stores, the sales data is watched and analyzed..… so you see.. calling it a register is in this case (an understandable if you don't know…), but the idiot side of this observation!

This had nothing to do with no child left behind idiots have been living among us from day one . I remember my cousin telling of a co-worker had to cut 4 feet off a board and proceeded to take 2 feet off each end. That happened back in the 1960's

The one about the buzzing stoplight reminded me of when, after the passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Too-Big-to-Fail bank I was working for in all seriousness installed Braille keyboards on all their drive-thru ATMs.

When my son was a manager at the same store in the early 70s, they had the computer go down quite a bit and they adapted--using calculators and paper.

Is our society doomed.....yes.... Obama was elected twice..

I have read by 2022 America will no longer be recognized as a free nation that ruled the world....we will truly be a 3rd world country.
