My hard drive has crashed and I guess I did not create a backup disc for windows 7 and a boot disc when I got the computer a couple years ago. Got it from Dell. Any idea if I even can or is it possible to download my licensed copy from the internet when I replace the hard drive? The computer did not come with a disc of the software programs. Thanks...

You should be able to get a Dell DVD from Dell or perhaps on ebay for about $10 or so. Go on the Dell website and look for Support for your particular service code.
I had the same situation recently. I downloaded Windows 7 and the program key was on a sticker on the computer case-a Dell also. I googled "download Windows 7". I think I found it on a Microsoft site but not certain.
Wandering the same thing. Mine didn't come with a disc either. But it hasn't crashed 'yet'.

It is important to find the exact version to match your key-home, pro etc. There are a lot of possible download sites so take time to look them over carefully before downloading.
OS 10 is coming free for those who have 7 or 8
10 beta is available. If you can't find the windows product key you could be out of luck. A new version will cost you about 138.00. I would not get windows 8 unless you like being beat up. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade when released for the first year.
you are correct in using "yet". I've had several over the years. Have good backups so nothings lost, just some time.
I called Dell this afternoon, and I am out of warranty, but they are graciously sending me the disc with my copy of windows that came on the computer, plus a disc of all the updated drivers....so, they came through for me again. The tech guy even said he'd further help me if I had any problems in installing the software on the new hard drive....

Thanks Jerry, that is exactly what I was looking for.

It takes a looong time to download, and it looks like it will be an iso file, but the article explains how to use it.
Don't get the betas yet because they will go thru multiple gyrations and they only have a few of the features you will need enable on each beta version has it is released for testing.
