Thank you so much, Ray! Cardinal was processed through Adobe Camera Raw, CS6 and Elements with Topaz Detail plugin.

Your birds are just plain awesome. The Cardinal stands out for me. Did you use any PP on it? If you did was it a plugin? Thanks and make a great day

Thanks so much, MtnMan, and thank you for the info about the upload issue. I'll get back with you shortly on my settings as I'll have to go back and look at my metadata. No tripod used with either of these, but almost all my closeup shots (checkout closeup forum) are taken using a tripod with IS off. The cardinal and warbler were shot from inside where I have a sofa back to steady the camera. The hawk was shot outside with the camera supported by the top of a lattice panel around our patio. I don't use M with bird shots. I've tried M and AV modes but have found that TV mode works best for me. I've also tried auto ISO but found I like having control over ISO.

As so many have noted, these are very nice shots.

Can you share info on the camera and settings (including ISO) and address whether you used a tripod and had VR/OS/IS on or off?

Have you considered using M and auto ISO as per a recent UHH discussion?

Dim lighting and long focal lengths=high ISOs. Please try downloads. 8 birds posted. Sorry about that. 3 birds posted. Unable to post all for some reason.

Hi Donna, just wondering what setting you use for your Tamron 150-600mm to get these quality shots.

Hi Craig. For the Sharpie: TV mode (shutter priority), 1/500 sec, f/6.30, ISO 2500 (very cloudy conditions), focal length 600mm. Warbler: same as above but ISO 2000.

Thanks. I'll try some of your approaches.

I too didn't like auto ISO...till I took the suggestion to try it with Manual exposure. My jury is still out on it but it looks promising.

Oh,WOW, Donna! so well composed, so beautiful against the muted backgrounds. Love the expression/look on the S.S.hawk, seems curious as to what you are doing. :-)

Thank you Donna, I've been shooting at 50 - 100 ISO and slower Shutter Speed. I think I'll ramp it up a bit and try your settings.

I'll have to try out auto ISO with M as well. Mine were a little over exposed and washed out when I used it with TV.
Here are my settings for the three birds. Sharpie: 1/500sec, f/6.30, ISO 2500 (very cloudy), focal length 600mm. Same settings for Pine Warbler but ISO 2000. Cardinal: 1/400sec, f/5.60, ISO 1000, focal length 400mm. I probably differ with most members on this, but I don't really worry about having every feather tack sharp. My goal is to have a sharp focus on the eye, and if it's not, I toss out the image.
