I have been using Windows 10 evaluation for several months now, other than a reduced metro screen I can see no differences
I am also running Windows 10 since the preview builds have been out. Right now, am running Windows Preview 10 build 6629 as of yesterday. After a few weeks of 10, everything is smooth on my little Intel Atom processor 1.8 Mh and my Toshiba SSD 128 Gb HD.
That said (and very happy with the preview), there was nothing wrong with Windows 8.1 after adding the free Classic Shell that put either the XP, or Windows 7 menu back on the Desktop and set the boot to the Desktop (after configuration).
Windows 8.1 is stabler and faster than Windows 7 and just as easy to navigate as Windows 7 with the free menu replacement... that's Classic Shell from

However, it looks to me like Windows 10 will be good. I've had no problems, with either the modified Windows 8.1, or the new Windows 10.
Windows 8.1 works very well, but I did have trouble with 8 before the upgrade.
To Larrywilk: Once Windows 10 is released you will be able to upgrade all your computers with win7 and win8 free for one year If you wait longer than a year you probable don't need a computer

What happened to 9 ???
MS decided to skip 9. A friend of mine was part of the alpha test and showed it to me briefly. He said it was like Win 8 on steroids plus many of the advantages of both Win 7 and 8.
I joined the Win 7 Beta test with a brand new computer, at the time of Win 7 release. The experience went flawlessly

I wonder if the older processors for the "old" Win-7 PCs will work well enough. My desktop is about 3 years old.

In windows there is something to see what OS it is. There was win95 and win98. Windows9 could be recogniced as win95 or win98. So they start with win10
There will be no Windows 9 because Windows had Windows 95 and Windows 98 at one time, and naming the next OS upgrade to Windows 9 would be confusing.

Interesting, thanks for that
I read the articles about this and my first reaction is what is the catch? By upgrading does it mean that you have one free year before it bombs and you have to pay? If so then it is not free!

Thanks for that. I put an SSD in my new Dell yesterday. Now I have to install all the programs. I'll get that Classic Shell.
