OK, fine for Windows users, but what about on a Mac. I have a Macbook Pro. I don't even have an "alt" key on my keyboard.

I saved this from Facebook... maybe it will help?

Yes, but as I have explained several times in this thread, Alt 236 may or may not produce the infinity symbol, in my case I get the ý symbol.

Alt 8236 gets absolutely nothing on my keyboard, the curser does not even advance.

I just tried it - Alt 236 IS the infinity symbol, but you have to have your Numlocks key turned on to get it, as well as keying in the numbers from the number pad. Is this what you're talking about? " ∞ "

acsii codes are done with number key pad and not the top row of numbers above q-] those have a different value.

One option too is goto > Start > All programms > Accessories > System Tools > Character map. Here is possible find all characters in every fontset, character codes. ANd at least copy this symbol, if with Alt + numpad isn't possible type this symbol. For me Alt 236 don't work..

in MS Outlook or Word, look on the ribbon for INSERT. You should see infinity symbol as an option. But you need to make sure you are using HTML text format. See pix.

Good luck!

Does anyone know what the Alt code is for the infinity symbol (horizontal figure 8) on a Windows keyboard?

It is NOT "Alt 236" as many internet sites say it is.

I have tried Wingdings, Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3, also Arial fonts.

Would be most grateful if some one know the answer.

If you have one of the (more) common word processors (Open Office / M$Word, etc.) you can do an Insert --> Symbol and find it there. Usually appears under Mathematical Symbols or in the Greek alphabet extensions (it's the lower case Omega)...

Searcher.. If you are trying to do this in MS Word... go to the insert menu, then symbol, and you will find infinity. Hope this helps.

I seldom use Windows, so I wish I knew how to select all those characters too. It is so easy on a Mac because they have an easy to use character palette.

If you go to this website it will give you a list of all the Windows Shortcut symbol codes using the ALT key.
