Rear feed on Epson

My Canon printhead started leaking and a new one would have been over $100 so I opted for a new printer. Eventually settling for an Epson xp860. It's a nice printer with great photo quality, but I'm stymied by one thing. Feeding specialty papers through the rear feed is not working.

Even though I set up the software and printer properties to feed the rear feed what happens is that it first feeds the paper, but doesn't print. Then it feeds plain paper from the cassette and prints on that instead.

I've scoured the manual and went to the Epson "knowledge base" but neither helped. I'm going to try calling them next, but maybe one of you can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Call Epson

They should know how to resolve your problem.

You'll get countless pages of speculation, here.

Good luck

It is not a problem, set up the printer specifying Rear Paper feed, but do not put a sheet into the feeder.Press the print button, when the cycle is finished (nothing gets printed), load the rear feeder with one sheet, then on the printer there should be a continue button of some sort, press this and the sheet will print.

I have the Epson Expression printer with a 3 inch touch display, the Continue button appears on this.

The first (non-printing) cycle arranges the workings in the Epson to align the feeding rollers, when the cycle is finished, if there is no paper in the rear slot, it immediately changes to normal tray printing.

I have the XP850 and use the same approach...it's not ideal but it does work...

You might have to check to see if the printer will handle the type of paper you are using. I have an Epson printer Artisan 837 and I tried some Epson Canvas paper in it but it wouldn't take that paper so I had to send it back. Check your printer to see what papers it will handle..Rich

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. That is a very weird process, but if it works, I guess I won't have to return the printer. I have done some printing from the cassette and the results are pretty good.
