They are everywhere there is organic matter and some moisture.
They may be gray and elongated but still appear to jump like fleas. The can move fairly fast so a aspirator or a berlese funnel can be use to collect them.
The globular springtails that tinusbum has the pleasure of photographing appear to be feeding on fungi and do not move as much as many species He is truly an macro artist.

thank you all!! these are one of my favorite things to shoot.i only see them in the winter and early spring.i have
a brick tile fence with algae growing on it at that time and the springtails come to graze.
