I have Photoshop cs6 and trying to learn how to use it. I have read some good reviews on Photoshop Elements 13 that other versions don't have. I have PSE 9 and like it very much but it is time to upgrade.
My question: Would it be necessary to buy the PSE 13 or learn to use PS cs6? PS cs6 seems more complicated the Elements. Does anybody use both?
Any advice will be very helpful.

First advice is to edit your topic title so we know what your "Question" is about. You have an hour to "Edit Topic Title"- see right above your name.

"PSE 13 PS CS6" or something similar will work better.

CS6 is a really deep, full-blown professional editing program I would venture to say most people don't ever out-grow. I get upgraded at work when the new version comes out while I'm still learning stuff in the last one.

I have a subscription to Scott Kelby's site: Kelby One- formerly known as Photoshop Users and it is chocked full of tutorials: video and written. I'm sure others will chime in...especially if you change the title.

Yes, I added it in.

(And I did respond to your "Question".)

Topic Titles are important as that's how the search function here works.
I found quite a few posts about Tutorials for CS6 HERE. Unless you change your title, yours will not be among them.

Ditto - I know a lot of folks won't bother to even click on a topic unless there is some clue what the topics or question is about.

I have a copy of Elements...(9 I think) on my work computer- it can do some things easier than with CS5 or 6.
Looking at Lynda.com subscription too.
$25 a month is hard to beat.

You might want to see what the Post-Processing forum here has as well:

Cheers!

PSE can give you basic photo-editing skills to prepare you for the full Photoshop.

When ready for Photoshop, you can find many tutorials for free on the Internet to teach you how to use this powerful program.

You may also consider attending a one-day workshop that teaches basic editing in Photoshop.

Let me say from experience, once you get the hang of Photoshop, you will never go back to a lesser photo-editing program.

BTW: Adobe rents Photoshop Creative Cloud (the full Photoshop) including Lightroom for $9.99 per month. You cannot beat this deal with a stick.

BTW2: You could upgrade PSE and use it while renting and learning PCC, if so inclined.

Happy New Year!

First, I don't recommend Photoshop Elements because it is only an 8-bit editor so will not handle the full resolution of RAW and will lose resolution as you edit. Also, are some simple edit tasks that cannot be done because it's layer capability is limited.

Since you already have PS6, I suggest you learn it and use it. It has a lot of features, so becoming an expert user is difficult, but you can get lots of instruction on how to use it for specific purposes. Take is slow and keep is simple to start, and you will probably get the hang of it.

On the other hand, for simple photo editing I highly recommend Adobe lightroom. I doesn't layer, but it does a lot of photo adjustment. I do most of my edits in Lightroom, and only move to other applications when I am really manipulating an image.

Joe, since you already use an Adobe product, the menu system, etc. for PS CS6 would not be a huge hurdle. The overall capabilities of CS6 can be overwhelming, but if each function is taken in stride, check for tutorials about each, you'd be able to learn what you need to know in relatively short order.

No reason to get pse13. CS6 is way better and isn't hard to use. The basic features work almost exactly the same way as pse it just does more. Use the part you understand and then just keep working to learn more parts of it.

If you really need something else the suggestion to get lightroom is right on the money.
