I have a 5 mo-old Nikon D5300 with also a new 80? - 300 zoom. The autofocus suddenly stopped functioning. Main batt is charged, and I removed and reinstalled the lens. Instruction book seems to be "quiet" on this. Any suggestions? Thanks. ~~~ Jim.

Make sure the switch on the lens is on AF. It's happened to me.
