This is a link to a photographer who uses bridge cameras for wildlife pictures: http://psnp.lightshedder.com
Currently he is using the Sony and gets great results.
In an older post on this site he compares Sony vs. Canon sx60.
Good luck with your next choice.

Went through the same I do understand but probably nothing will satisfy you...owned Hx300 for a year...This Christmas bought an SX50 returned for SX60 found that the reach and quality of the HX 300 was completely satisfactory and with 50x lens did what I needed..
So with Christmas come and gone ordered a Panasonic ZS40....I do not need two 1200mm cameras I need a smaller pocket camera that gives good photos and will not cost both my arms and my legs and do some different things...Choose the ZS40 because it has a viewfinder which is a necessity in Flordia. don`t get frustrated find one Bridge camera and get to know it. For what it is worth I find the Sony HX300 gives me very good photos and is great on the trails. There will always be something newer or having buyer regrets will get really frustrating. Good Luck and Happy Holidays

I appreciate reading your feelings re the bridge cameras. Anecdotal experience and opinion is valuable to me when deciding where to move from a Nikon P510. Thanks

I'm interested to hear what your opinion is of the Sony 400. I know it's an alleged upgrade of the Sony 300 but is the camera actually better and is image resolution any better? Are you pleased with the background defocus of the 300 and do you find you are able to reduce the depth of field sufficiently if wanting to diffuse your background? I had considered going to the Canon cameras but thought against it.

A couple of weeks ago I sold SX50, bought SX60, sold SX60, bought Lumix FZ200, and I'm about to sell it now too. I've waffled between "reach" and IQ... the SX50 had both, but I wanted something newer. After going through these cameras I've concluded that the FZ200 just doesn't have the reach or IQ despite the touted "f2.8 everywhere", and I thought the SX60 wasn't any better than the SX50.

What is your actual experience with Sony HX400V? any other bridge camera worth looking at? I have 6D with "L" glass lens, so I want to keep the bridge <$500ish.

Take a look at the Sony RX100 series and the Nikon CooPix P7800, I've owned both and they both have good IQ, features, zoom, telephoto, etc,
Good luck on your search.

I agree, and thanks for the comments... on each camera I've shot maybe 600 images in all sort of conditions so I can get a feel for the camera. I really liked the SX50 too... wanted something newer...

Take some shots with the A6000......speed and IQ.
