This is my first attempt with the 150-600 at the moon. Skies where slightly overcast, wispy high clouds from contrails, so I got the best focus I could.
It gathers light better a f/8 ISO 100 than I expected.
With the 2X TC it also gathers good light just as Bruce suggested.
Both views are cropped to fit the frame.

Very nice Craig. Did you do any work on them? And you can crop your moon shot pretty close. That will show more of the details. Also try ant turn it into a black and white shot and see if that helps. Would you mind if I played with it?
Erv

Oh! Can yo used some clear sky's my way? :):)

Thank you Erv it looks a whole lot better after you played with it.
I was very timid in sharpening and didn't know about going B&W.

Just use Aperture right now. With work and everything else right now I don't have time to sit and learn. But if you screw it up, you can always go back to the original.:):)

Craig, Nice shots. Since you allowed Erv to take a shot at it, I also gave it a try. I opened PS-CS5 and bridge. I opened in ACR and then imported into CS5. I sharpened and then noise reduction, followed by cropping. I hope you do not mind, I can look at the other one if you want me to. Bruce, your thoughts as well. Gary

Not too bad, actually. I think I would increase the ISO to 800-1600, depending on the camera. You'll have less atmospheric distortion that way. And please, resist the temptation to pp the &$@%^# out of it! Some slight sharpening, maybe a little contrast enhancement, is about all that is necessary. It'll be clearer when the moon is higher.....but of course, you can't get a thin crescent that way... All in all, not a bad shot as is. I'd just increase the ISO as stated above, so your exposure can be shorter.

Thank you Gary, you & Erv have an edge in PP that I don't have yet. I'm a little timid when it comes to pushing it in PP. Any of my post are always fair game for viewer participation. I'm here to learn all I can.

Nice Moon shots Craig... keep developing your technique and you will slowly get better and better results... keep reviewing my suggestions and use them as a starting point and modify/customize them to better suit your equipment, location, and style of shooting...

P.S. Just saw your PM... I have been working on my computer... have my new 4TB external hard drive connected and have it setup the way I like it... also started transferring photo files from an old and failing external hard drive that is about 10 years old... can't complain about it failing since it gave good service for the last 10 years... it was starting to get louder and I tested it with a hard drive testing utility and sure enough I got a warning stating eminent failure possible...
