I've been trying to learn how to operate my camera for about two years now. canon TSI - 18- 200 that is what I am working with. I always been fascinated with photography. I am looking for free lessons or a class in the Los, Angeles down, town area. I really want to pursue this hobby. My wallet is light as I have a autistic child. And therapy Is not cheap. Thank you for your time. .. PRETTYFLYER
Hi there, not sure where you purchased your rig. There are many free classes at local camera shops. Samy's has a few and they have several locations in the So. Cal. area. Also, Check out Canon.com for presentations in your area. Good luck.
Chris
Hopefully someone will be able to point you in the direction of some free classes. If you stick around for a while you will come across links for all sorts of things that will help you out as will the very knowlegeable and extremely talented people that hang out here.
By the way, welcome to the Hog!!! :)
Hello and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to UHH. I started 1 1/2 years ago with my Canon T3i knowing nothing. You first need to read your manual to familiarize yourself with the buttons, menus and settings. I learned a great deal from free videos at
http://www.photographycourses.biz. . There are great lessons there for beginner, intermediate and advanced users. Watch them with your camera in hand then get out and practice what you learn. Many folks here will also tell you to get the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Anderson. If you learn better by books, this is probably a good book for that. I prefer videos myself. Good luck and have fun.

I tried that link twice Walt. It tells me that Internet Explorer cannot display the page but it's working fine fore everything else.
Thanks T. I knew it had to be something like that but wasn't paying close enough attention.
Welcome to UHH. Coming here is a good start toward learning more about your camera, lenses and photography. Help is just a posting away. One of the things you might consider is to search for photography meetup groups in your area. They often have free workshops and you will find that photographers usually do everything they can to help. All you have to do is ask. I wish you well.

Good link, Walt, the book you recommended is by- Bryan Peterson, "Understanding Exposure" but don't fret just finish that first cup of coffee. ;)
Besides the great idea of meetup groups David mentioned above, you can learn a lot from beginner books. Tony Northrup's Stunning Digital Photography helped me get my start. The Kindle format is better than the real book, IMO, since it has links to private video tutorials. I carry it on my smartphone as a reference for when I need to do a new type of photo, like a night cityscape. He goes over the basics and every type of photography. Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure or any of Scott Kelby's books are always mentioned around here. I have Kindle versions of them all and they all have helped in one way or another. Good luck and keep hanging around here. You already have the camera and lens, even on a limited budget, the ideas you have gotten here should get you jump started.

There is an extra period after "biz" I removed it and the link works fine on my MAC. Hope it works for you.

Join a Camera Club - or Photo Club. There are a LOT of "MEET-UP" groups Everywhere... I have personally helped in my local Saint Louis Camera Club as well as a few of the Meet-Up groups. And Too = there are a LOT, I mean a LOT of VIDS on Youtube.com....
I also teach Photography, (How to operate any camera) and I start by having my students set their cameras on MANUAL and learn the basics = i.e.= Aperture / Shutter Speed / ISO. With just those three you can master the making of photos very easily, and it may take only a few weeks to do that.
Good Luck.
