If you spend much time in the garden, you have probably seen a Hummingbird Moth. If you haven't recognized it, it's because they are VERY fast, they are readily mistaken for actual hummingbirds and they almost never perch. While there are several types, and the type varies with your location, they are all about the same size and have the same feeding habits.

I invite you to post your shots along with mine posted below.

Thanks for looking.

Bob

I've got several pics of these, but I have found nobody, up until now, that could tell me what they are. I'm getting smarter by the day as a member here.

Thanks Ron. That was with my (new at the time ) 28-300. It's a great lens for chasing fast moving bugs. I got it last year to go out to Oregon. Love it!

A friend called me to come see the hummingbird moth. This one came just at dusk. It was too dark to focus on the moth we used flash but could not see the target. The next night I brought a desk lamp which one of us shined on the moth so the other could see where to focus. This only went on for maybe half an hour then he was gone.
When the blossoms of the honeysuckle fell in a few days, he was gone.
