I will probably lean on whom ever I can to learn this camera. It WILL be quite the learning curve. Will probably start in one auto function or the other just to get acquainted with it. Hope to go towards manual settings soon. I like experimenting with new "toys".

There are several BIG differences between your A55 and the A77 and you will have a slight learning curve.

The basic operations are the same, but you will have quite a few MORE options with the newer camera.

On Automatic you have a very powerful camera. It's even MORE powerful on Auto+. But when you learn about the autofocus points and some of the other specialized functions, you'll REALLY enjoy your purchase.

Just be patient and go through the menu one item at a time. There are a couple of experienced A77II owners here who can help you with any questions, but let me tell you, that is a MONSTER of a camera you got there B4wolf!

I ended buying a practically new A55 kit on e-bay with some extras for $ 300.00. The person who sold it found it to complicated of a camera and could not figure out how to shot HDR, even though it came with David Busch's book. A lot of underling in the book. :)

I still have my A55 and at some point will send it to Sony and see if I can get it repaired for their price of $ 250.

I had problems after I first bought it and got it repaired under warranty, but had to jump through hoops with Sony to get it repaired.

So I am going to take it to a local camera shop and see what they say first and if they can fix it for under $ 250, I'll go for it.
Otherwise, I'll send it to Sony ARMED with the camera shops diagnoses so I do not have to jump through hoops again.

A77 is a great camera. Dose not over heat in video like the A55.

Well, I don't have the II model yet, but I am VERY familiar with the A77 I. Davethehiker has a couple threads up discussing his experience with the II. So you are NOT alone. ;D

GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!

^^^I love my A77 because it's a REALLY good, powerful camera, and have NO DOUBTS that the A77II is even better.

I'm excited for you, I have an a77 and keep thinking about the new one.

If you have the a77, don't bother with the a77II. Not that big of a difference between the two. Yes it focuses a little faster and a slight improvement on the higher ISO noise problems. If you were happy shooting at ISO 800 or less, you'll now be happy with ISO 1000 or less. The slightly faster focus, slight improvement over ISO noise, and better processor (much higher burst rate) is about the only useful improvements. I tried one for a week and maybe it's just me, but didn't seem worth buying since I already have the a77. I can use the money to buy better glass and wait for it's next upgrade or the a99. By all means if you don't have the a77 then go for the a77II. But if you have the a77 it just seems like a wasted purchase unless you just want to make the a77 your back-up.

79 AF points versus 19?

The frame per second burst rate is the same but the A77II has a much larger buffer, enabling you to score THREE times as many JPEGS as the I.

WiFi allowing direct tethering, NFC for smartphone apps and connectivity, a higher resolution LCD, new technology on the EVF and the new BINOZ processor which enables the A77II to focus faster than almost any other camera.

Significant improvements to be sure... ;)

Maybe it's just me but after using one for actually a little more than a week, I didn't see enough of a improvement to switch. Maybe you can justify your purchase. It's a great camera and I have no complaints about it. But I think I will wait and see what Sony has to offer in the DSLR (or DSLT) market for future purchase. For now I'm happy with my a77 and think I can wait for something that makes me really want to depart with my hard earned money.

Had my A65 for 14 months and loved it, but when a friend said he'd buy it with 2 kit lenses, I decided to go for the A77ii, just today.(12-13) Will miss thE A65'S GPS but really want the wi-fi connection. That Amazon price of $898 WITH vertical grip is just too good to pass up. Can hardly wait.

I've had the a55, a77 and now the a77ii. The a77ii is one awesome camera and a big improvement from the mark 1.

As CHOLLY says..

When my a55 was deemed non repairable, I made the decision to jump ahead into a better, more advanced camera. I am sure it is more advanced in it's abilities than I am! Any one who has one is more than encouraged to give me pointers. I ordered it with the 16-50 f2.8 lens. I have a few lenses from my a55, that, as I understand, should work, including a 75-300 zoom and a DT 1.8 50. More lenses may have to wait a bit.

Congrats on your new camera!!

I've had mine for about a month and am loving it! There is a learning curve and several more layers of menus to go through but get Gary Friedman's book on it and it will shorten the learning curve. I have a copy on my phone so it's always with me.
Unfortunately some of my older Minolta lenses don't play well with it, but the newer Sony ones seem to work fine. The autofocus is fast. Get a good card...check the write speed, the speed printed on the card is the read speed and is faster than the write speed. I noticed a lag while the camera was writing to the card at first and through trial and error narrowed it down to the card (the $60 Sony one that came with the camera :( ) The best I've found so far has been the SanDisk Extreme Pro (yep, they are a bit pricey).

^^^That's EXACTLY what I use.

64 and 32 gig cards.

And since I copy everything after each shoot so I don't worry about losing data with the big cards.
