Let me know when you get an answer to a very good question, Craig. Thanks.

Will do, I saw a comparison somewhere awhile ago and and can't find it.
I just broke the bank getting the Tamron and am really pleased with it
at normal to moderate resolutions. If I zoom into an unreasonable factor I can see imperfections.
Have not printed anything yet. Still getting the feel of how the Lens and Camera work best together.

Breathing? Hah!! I brought this subject up about the Nikon 70-200mm VRII which was mentioned by Thom Hogan in his review of the lens and got skewered. So....is there actually somebody out there who believes this is important?

Tony mentioned it as well

I am leaning to the Tamron because of price and weight. From what I read and see, there is not enough of a quality difference to buy Sigma or go the prime route. Plus, I have two other Tamron lenses that more than meet my needs.

Focus breathing is most apparent at closer focusing distances - like of a single small bird ! - and if you do single small birds - yes it is important - otherwise, not so much.

Yes, I am speaking with regard to this lens ( 150-600) - otherwise for smaller lenses (70-200 ect.) portraits of people......

HOLY CRAP!!!!

I just had a customer in the store asking about AF fine tune on his D600 with his recently purchased Sigma 150-600mm Sport. Instead of just telling him how to do it, I wanted to show him the proper way to get the job done (just my way of doing things).
He did not have his body or lens with him so I used the same D750 body and lens I had used for this posted comparison since I had not yet AF fine tuned that lens to that body.
Imagine my surprise when I found out it was SERIOUSLY front focusing! I had to take the fine tune to +10 to get it to properly focus with the Sigzilla! (I had previously adjusted the fine tune on my D800E to +2 for this lens so I didn't think it would be far off with the D750. That's what I get for thinking!)
Looks like I will have to re-take the shots I used for this demo when I have another sunny day!

2 things, first have you done a comparison between the Sig & Tam 150-600mm's.
And second is there an explanation on how to do a proper 'AF fine tune' on long lenses liked these.
Thank you
Craig

Ahh...that would explain a lot! I'm looking forward to the adjusted shots.

Can the sigma dock do MFA?

The Dock adjusts the LENS, and has no bearing on the camera itself.

I believe AF fine tuning to be critical for accurate evaluation. One reviewer said the pay-off for spending the better part of an afternoon tuning the Sigma at all focal lengths, made all the difference in the world and was exceedingly impressed with the Sigma 150-600 performance at all focal lengths, with all aspects of the lens IQ. Even with the estimated $900 difference, it seems it very well could be worth the extra money over the Tamron 150-600 based on some of the information I've run across. However, I hope they adjust the $2,000 price tag to compete with the tamron.

I was all set to get the Tamron but, in light of some of these early observations, I think I'll wait to see how the Sigma pans out in time.

So far, with the information that's out there, it seems you can't go wrong with either one. It's yet to be seen if the Sigma is worth the extra $$$.

The Sigma Contemporary is the one which will fare against the tamron. No idea why you want them to adjust the SPORTS edition.
