I guess a conservative estimate of the number of species of animals on Earth approaches 3 million (up to 10 million!); no one has that in their noggin! The best we can do is ask others for help! My info on bugs is usually limited to family level IDs; some families have thousands of species known and unknown, but they usually share interesting and valuable characteristics.
