Hello Abigayle! Welcome to the forum.
You will find a lot of helpful people and learn much.
Don't be shy in asking questions. That is the best way to learn.
You have a decent camera to start with, so enjoy your journey of discovery!
Welcome Ab. Stay tuned to the Hog and you will learn.
Welcome! I'm new here too... Regarding filters, maybe the one that you will be using most when you use it would be a circular polarizing filter. This one reduces reflection from glass and water and also enhances the colors and darkens the sky... Don't get caught up on buying everything you see; rather, buy when you know you will put your equipment to good use. Meanwhile, get to know your bells and whistles while using your gear... That was the best advice I got when I started... 😊. Grow into it!
Welcome to the Hog, abigayle. You'll find lots of friends & plenty of good advice here. I second the comments others have already made and would add, check out "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen. It doesn't matter what camera you're shooting or what your subject is, it's all about getting the exposure right. The book is available from Amazon.com & iTunes. In addition, there are several good websites you'll see mentioned here. Check out picturecorrect.com & digital-photography-school.com. Or, just keep an eye out here on the Hog, they're mentioned regularly.
Welcome!! I started way back when with silver. You've got a nice camera to start with, and the "nifty fifty" can be fun. This site has some amazing people to help!!

thank you, thats a good idea, with christmas coming up i was hoping to get some filters and camera accessories, do you have any suggestions? i was also wondering if im getting filters if there is a certain size i would need for my specific camera or if they are pretty much interchangeable
Filter ring size is very important. Its size in mm should be right on the lens. One of my lenses require size 51mm. They are NOT standard. Check yours. Some suggested Polarizing lenses. I agree, but it they are too pricey get a sky filter to protect your lens. As for colored lenses, all those kinds of adjustments can be made with software, such as Lightroom or Photoshop.
