I'm looking to purchase a Wide Angle lens for my Nikon D3100.

I currently have an 18-55 DX, and 55-200MM Dx lens.

I was thinking about this as my lineup after I save a little.. what do you think?

Tokina 11-16mm AT-X
Nikon 35mm f/1.8
Nikon 55-200mm VR DX

What do you think? Any alternate suggestions for the wide angle?

what do you shoot that an 18 mm lens won't cover and an 11 mm will?

How about 40% more image? Seems significant to a photographer.

that ain't my question was it?

I like to shoot buildings, bridges, landscapes... I live near Philly and would like to have a wider angle lens for a lot of the buildings/views.

thanks....well I have no clue regarding wide angle lenses anymore but I remember what a famous photog once said when asked a similiar question: he said - "step back a few feet and look again." this might not be practical if stepping back means falling off a bridge or into rush hour traffic...then again it might.

Another item to consider among all those lenses ( and one that helped me decide to buy the TOKINA 11-16mm ) is the speed of it.

The 11-16 is F2.8 at all times. Some other lenses are F4 or F5.6 which lose 1 or 2 F-Stops ( when you need them the most )

As MT point out 50mm is the "normal" lens. That is basically what we see with the naked eye. I think you will be amazed at what will be included with the lower numbers. Consider trying a rental first.

I decided to wait on the $500+ purchase of a lens. I bought the 35mm f/1.8 today so I could develop my skills with that. Once I feel comfortable (and have saved enough) I'm going to ditch the 18-55mm and get the 11-16 or 12-24mm tokina.

Thanks for all your help!

Am I missing something here?? It looks to me that only the 11-16mm is 'wider' than the lens you have already. And, why are you considering another 55-200 that seems to be virtually identical to the 55-200 that you already have? Just the VR? or is that lens 'faster?'

I like my Tokina 12-24mm.

Tokina is under rated. Great glass.
