I'm from New England, USA, and I am interested in learning more about macro photography. I plan on visiting this forum regularly.
Any recommendations on a good SLR (Canon or Nikon) for macro shots? I have no use for video functionality, just regular shots. I'm looking at the $400 to $600 range (or higher if it were worth it) with another $400 to $ 600 for the lens. Recommendations welcome.
I've already purchased some fine books on macro photography; now, I'm looking to purchase the right camera and lens.

Welcome to the forum.... Both are fine cameras, I use a Canon 7D myself. Buy the best camera and lens you can afford. Buying body only, and a lens that you want is the best way to go. I've bought both camera and prime L lenses off of Ebay, and have been very happy with them all, and saved several $100's of dollars that way too. Just a suggestion.

Welcome. You will learn a lot here. There is also a forum here called "True Macro". Here is the page link:
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-102-1.htmlOR. Just go to the top of this page and click "Home". That will also get you there and you can see the other forums available.
Good luck.
Welcome to the forum. Almost any SLR will do good macro shots, depending on the lens you get. Good luck!
If you look at Sony DSLR's, Sony has three macro lenses (100, 50, 30) and you can also use Minolta AF lenses. I am extremely happy with the 100mm and 30mm macro lens from Sony.
I would argue that the camera is less important that the glass you use. I use Sony... it was all I could afford at the time, and there are plenty of older Minolta lenses (Sony bought Konica Minolta) for peanuts on eBay.
I bought a cheap set of macro extension tubes that I use for my macro shots.
Welcome to the UHH
Do the macro extension tubes really work?
