Thought this was pretty interesting and unique. I understand the workings of a lens but never have I ever seen this in any of my pictures. The first shot was as I saw the image (dark, except for the hand held blur) Notice the upside down, offset outline in the second and third shot ? I opened the lens up and adjusted the shutter speed also. This is what came out of the camera. Could this be caused by a reflection from rear lens back onto the UV filter or back onto the front glass ? any one ? Curious

Seen the (Red Dot) flair/reflection before but never an upside down outline

The flair and the upside down outline are all caused by the image reflecting off the front of the lens, back out onto the back of the filter, and then to the sensor. Take the filter off and the outlines would disappear, but the red flair (lighthouse beacon) would remain as it is primarily caused by the long exposure.

Beautiful images. I've never seen photos of this iconic lighthouse in its Christmas finery.

I took this last May and recognized the Nubble at once. I stop there at least once a year(my Wife's favorite) but never at night...

Thank you for all your comments.. These pictures were not taken to be keepers in any way. I was in the area and was just curious as to what the lens would do, or was capable of doing fully open in this type of situation.

The red spot could be easily cloned out ut the OP was mainly asking whnece it came from - flare

I think you are seeing a cloud. It does not look like a reflection.

I think some may of missed what I was referring to. I understood what the Red Dot was. My concern or question had to do with an inverted "Ghost Image"
