I noticed that if I have my camera set up for back button focusing I cannot get my flash, Canon 430EX-II to work ETTL. I have to change the setting to remove back button focusing for this to work. Does any one have suggestions or workarounds so I can use back button focusing and ETTL at the same time? Thanks.
I have not heard of this combination creating a flash problem. I shoot all my Canon bodies with BBF and use 580II's both manually and in TTL. I do not know about the 430II, but assume there isn't a difference that causes your problem.
What camera do you have and what button did you set for BBF?
Perhaps setting up there was a menu item set incorrectly. Try doing a reset to default and then do your BBF again, carefully.
I am using the 60D. I can use the TTL, but not ETTL based on what the flash says.
I have a 430ex II set for ETTL and I BBF with no problem.
True, the flash will not activate with the back button, but it's only used for focus. The flash will meter and activate when the front button is used to take the shot.
What mode do you shoot in ?
I usually shoot in AV or TV. I cannot set it to work ETTL.
