I had never heard of this place, but it is supposedly known by photographers around the world. Great place for action shots of planes.

Thanks. that was weird. I had the site on my screen, but the URL wasn't right.

I was in Aberistwyth years ago. Rode on a small gauge railway.

The RAF / MOD publish 'anticipated' timetables for low flying training:-

Not been myself but it is on my bucket list, I have seen some incredible images taken by others.

OK Guys, here you go. The mach Loop is about an hours drive from where I live. It's where the fast jet pilots go practice low level flying through the valleys.

If you climb the hill either side of teh valley you will be at the same height or even above the aircraft as they fly through.

This link gives lots of information about the loop, unfortunately you can't predict when the planes will fly and there's no official information given.

http://machloop.co.uk/

For an idea of what can sometimes be seen have a look at this video http://youtu.be/3o-Eaixw6ec other vids are available just search youtube for Mach Loop

The aircraft don't fly all the tine and sometimes there can be long gaps between incoming aircraft. As you are in the mountains weather can be wild at times and changeable, expect low lying cloud, rain and wind, so dress accordingly. But on good days it can be really sunny and quite beautiful. If you ever do visit parking is in laybys at the side of the road, there are no toilet facilities and bring your own refreshments.

Live about 6 miles from the gap in the hills through which the planes fly. The 'main' road goes through the gap and travelling by car it can be quite un-nerving to suddenly first see and then hear the planes pass overhead so close. Worse can be the sudden unexpected noise.
My favourite is the Hercules - it is big enough and slow enough to see!
Night flights are not uncommon either!

A low night flight doesn't sound like fun.
