I have the Tokina 100mm for my D7000 and it is an incredible bargain. Extremely well made and sharp as a tack.

I shoot with a Nikon D7100 and for macro use a Tamron 90mm f2.8 lens. For the money it is a good buy, I like the results that I get. Check out this review.

What is a good Micro lens for my Nikon D7100? I need something good without breaking my bank account.

Look at KEH or EBAY. Last night a photo club member showed a Sigma 150mm macro (micro) on a Nikon D4 in or show and tell for Christmas wish list stuff that I do not know the price of but his work with it it phenominal.

I have a D7100, plus a D300... I also have several macro lenses. 2 are AF, a Sigma 105mm & a Tamron 180mm that go to life size. That said, my "go to" macro lens is an older manual focus (MID 1980'S) Lester Dine 105mm macro..... (I also have several other manual focus macro lenses)... The D7100 can use the older lenses & still get metering. I shoot entirely in manual anyway so it's not an issue with what lens I use...

The Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro D Macro is a great lens for $377.00 at BH Photo. It is a great alternative to the Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f2.8 at 775.95 from Nikon USA.

I just wanted to 2nd this lens, it is very good at macro, and also is a stunning portrait lens and rated as good as the other lens and less money but made very well! I went the whole route from EXt tubes to reversing and then to this lens, all options have pros and cons but this lens is very handy multi purpose

I've have the nikkor 40mm micro 2.8 and the nikkor 85mm micro. Both yield good results and are a low cost solution.

Just for clarification: BOTH of these lenses are DX, made specifically for APS-C sensor cameras. Neither will work as well on a full frame camera. ALL other lenses mentioned previously will function properly on APS-C and full frame cameras.

With reference to the original question, the D7100 is a APS-C camera.

True.
But if in the future a full frame camera might be upgraded to...
It is best to consider ones choices towards a lens that will work with both camera formats. ;)

That was one of my criteria. (Even though I have the chance of a snowball in hell of ever upgrading. ;) )
My Macro lens is old hat and needs a focus drive body in order to use its AF.
But for Macro, manual focus works fine for me.

We are all aware that the D7100 has an APS-C sensor, and will accept both DX and FX lenses.

AND the D7100 has an internal focusing motor, so old AF lenses work fine as do AF-S newer ones... I actually think the older lenses focus quicker using the old AF lug on the D7100.

I have a D7000 and a D700. I purchased an older 105mm macro...sharp on both bodies. I shoot M all the time so AF doesn't matter. You save lots of $$$ going with a good used lens.

The popular choice appears to be the 105mm Macro from Nikon.
But there is quite a range available.
The 105 Micro from Nikon is a great lens for macro. I picked up one on ebay a couple years ago in like new condition, with the box for about $250. Also picked up a 60mm Micro Nikkor in the same shape, but gave it to my Daughter for her D70s.
